I just got the following email from them regarding less downloads per month for people who subscribe after Nov. 21st.

Quote:
On November 21st, 2006, eMusic will begin offering new plan options to new members. While the price of our eMusic Basic, Plus, and Premium subscription plans will remain the same, the number of downloads in each plan will change:

If you are happy with your current monthly or annual rollover plan, simply do nothing. Your selected plan will be guaranteed as long as you keep your account active and in good standing. However, if you wish to lock in a new rollover plan, you must do so before November 21st, 2006. We recommend that you review and set your rollover plan now to lock in at the lowest price per download available After Nov 21st, if you want to upgrade, you’ll no longer be able to upgrade into the older plans. All the more reason to upgrade now!

For the serious music fan, we recommend that you take advantage of our 2-year annual subscription plans to get up to 25% off of our month-to-month prices. Lock in your plan today!

I was scared that they were downgrading the current accounts as well, relieved to see this only applies to new subscribers.

Hey, there's a bang-up method to stay competitive: offer less.

Bravo, e-music. Most of us already think the notion of paying for mp3's is weird anyway. So how about you keep us even further away?

They are still the best deal around. I suspect this is an attempt to bring in more money so they can afford to pay bigger Indie labels such as Subpop.

I don't know, I still think it's a good deal just less good. For the price of one CD you get three CDs worth of songs. Sure, you don't get the packaging but that's a small price to pay.

it's a good deal as-is. Not sure how far they're cutting back but there's probably a little give allowed. Just glad this doesn't affect my account.

$20 for 90 songs (approx 8-to-9 albums) is a good deal.

This is why God invented Torrents and Limewire. So you don't have to pay for music.

That's weird.

Seems like they were toying with a subscription service a few months back ala Napster. They sent out a questionaire heavily leaning on that premise. Guess they balked.

I'll subscribe when I stop having possessed disc drives that burn CDs in unpredictable manners; sometimes perfectly, sometimes crap.
