The Telescopes It was a long time coming-- 20 years, essentially-- but Stephen Lawrie and Jo Doran's stellar post-proto-psych/dream/gaze/whatever act the Telescopes will finally tour the United States for the very first time beginning this weekend. Sadly, only you schmucks out West will actually get to see them. Just kidding! We love you guys. Really.
Once a five-piece and part of Creation Records' mighty roster, the Telescopes came together back in 1986 and have long been a favorite of connoisseurs of genres that begin with words like dream-, psych-, post-, and shoe-. After a significant recording hiatus and a stint as Unisex, the core duo re-emerged at last in 2002 with LP3, Third Wave, on Double Agent Records. They then graced us last year with #4, via their own Antenna Records, and take to the States tomorrow alongside like-minded pals Füxa and LSD and the Search for God. Then it's back to the old countries for another round of star-gazing.
