i'm handling it fine right now. However I really haven't tried this while drinking yet. So, I am having a beer right now to see what happens. However, this weekend I have a show, and I'll probably fucking go crazy.

however, aside from the obvious health benefits of quitting, smoking is really fucking expensive. now, if I ever cheat I can be one of those bastards that always bummed off of me! i knew they were on to something

I ate Velamints constantly when I quit. They aren't real good, but my roommate happened to have a case of them around. I would just pop 'em whenever I started to get the urge. After a while though, it just stuck.

Velamints? just looked these up. i thought they were some anti-smoking mints. i don't think i need the nicorette gum or anything

i've been chewing a shitload of gum though.

please no. nothing pisses me off more than the people who lecture me for smoking and then cadge cigarettes from me an hour later when they're drunk. Good luck in the quitting, though.

Yeah, I don't like chewing gum. I'm not big on mints either, but they were in abundant supply and free. It was mainly just a distraction.

Robotboy, I'm with you on this. I smoked daily from 14-20 and inconsistently but fiendishly from 22-present (24). I've been really good since November. The only times I've broken is when I've gone out drinking. I can drink at home and not need a smoke, but put me in a social situation, and I'm done. All else is easy. I haven't even replaced it with much herb.

Good luck this weekend. Don't beat yourself up too much if you fall off at your show. Try again the next day.

I never understood the former-smoker-turned-lecturer mentality. Same with alcoholics who scold drunks and Born Agains who insist on preaching feverishly against the same sins they committed just a few years ago.

Hell, I don't really understand the ardent anti-smoking people [truth.com are you out there?] and their fervor. It's not like people in 2005 don't know about smoking and its inherent dangers. I knew full well of my dumbass decision to start, but I still did it.

pretty much everyone i know that quits smoking just smokes a whole lotta weed for awhile, but I wouldn't suggest that. Ask Chase, I'm pretty sure he's still smoke free, which means aside from the alcoholism he's the healthiest motherfucker I know.

thanks, man. my bandmates know that i'm trying to quit, so they will try to keep me away, and I'm really going to try to resist the urge to bum off someone. i guess I really don't know what it's going to be like, but this will be the hardest part, especially since it's so soon after I tried to quit.

Do it. Have one, two, a fistful. But come Sunday and Monday, climb back on the horse. Before I quit in August 03, I had been cutting back since about May 03. So if you go three days and pick it up again, just remember where you want to be and try to go a little longer than last time.

If you have a show or go out boozing, don't beat yourself up, but be disciplined enough to get back on track as soon as you can. If you just work on a few hours or days at a time and succeed, soon it will be a week, then you won't really remember the last time you lit up. When I first started to quit, I would just wait a little longer between breaks. Then I would go a day, day and half. It just grows as you wean your body off of it.

You will reason with yourself. You will bargain with yourself. Resist this and you've won. You sound like you want it enough.

i do. for one, and not THE reason to do it, it's expensive. also, cancer isn't very appealing. and [sappy time] i'm getting ever closer to popping the question to the gf, and I'd like to be around for a while. She's got a week worth of quitting on me. we both know what's in store for this weekend.
