Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi

Piano Magic - Writers Without Homes

also: R.E.M. - Murmur & Reckoning, after watching them on Trio last night performing on a 1983 Letterman show. Amazing how time goes by and how unique they once were thought to be.

My favorite New Order, as good as anything they did as Joy Division in my often unpopular opinion.

Most accurate title ever. I totally loved WPA, but without a doubt their studio discs never came close to their live show.

There was something about her on CNN entertainment page yesterday. Like she was once supposed to be the next big thing, and then discapeared.

There was something about her on CNN entertainment page yesterday. Like she was once supposed to be the next big thing, and then discapeared.

Her voice is gorgeous, very similar to pre-junk Billie Holiday, but she still sings like it's an academic exercise rather than an artform. On Dreamland she was backed on a few tracks by Marc Ribot, and her music really needs that kind of inspired/loony musician to succeed, otherwise it sounds like polite supper club jazz-lite. Her '04 album Careless Love has a few standout moments (great versions of Elliot Smith's "Between The Bars" and Leonard Cohen's "Dance Me To The End Of Love"), but mostly it sends the listener right back into that same facking supper club.*

* <---- never been to a supper club.
