He's got shmoo-ites out wearing signboards in major cities all across North America and there's going to be a special on Ovation.

don't you think that's maybe a bit much? i know shmoo is ambitious and all (HE'S GOING TO BUSINESS SCHOOL IN THE FALL), but wearable signboards?

anyhow, sorry to be j-c-lately on this, but is it going to be (just) a list like in past years?

What did you have in mind?

something akin to what FT and PFMS/hipinion did. i dunno, i figured at least 10 folks here would want to write something about xyz albums of the year. keep it to 3-4 sentences, etc.

maybe too much work for something that could just be window dressing..?

I'd volunteer to write a blurb.

As far as making/ designing a page dedicated to the list Hipinion-style, I think that's going a bit far. We could just have short write-ups for each one. You would just PM people separately and ask them to write for a particular one.

I could blurb for Dizzee Rascal.

seems like those blurbs would just write themselves in the discussion following.

i'd volunteer to collect the blurbs, create a non-html, simple text version of the list to go with posting the results when you're ready to publish them. i don't have the table skills that would be requisite for doing a proper page a la nathan's work at hipinion (though i imagine that wouldn't take long).

for pfms, we solicited 2-3 blurbs from folks who volunteered to write. that way the list wouldn't be known ahead of time by everyone, only that albums that are "in the running" would have write-ups and would be somewhere on the final list.

oh i could write a blurb and a half for them. and i will not, as i didn't see the merit in folks talking shit about the Meadowlands last year.

also, to further prevent details of the final rankings becoming public, shmoo could supply me a list of the albums that made the top 20, but in alphabetical order. people could volunteer with a preference for writing about 5 different 04 albums and after a little bit of mixing and matching, i'd assign the blurb reviews, etc.

anyone have any input on this up or down?

It sounds good to me. Of course it will delays the presentation of the results, but if people are for it, that's fine.

yeah, that's the only real drawback that i can see. i'd expect a quick turnaround from all who want to submit - maybe 48 hours. i wouldn't do a copyedit or content edit either - publish as is, with a spell check, tops.

between moving and not having my stereo and not being online for awhile, i am way behind in re-listening to 2004 releases in an attempt to complete my shmoo poll. i will probably submit mine minutes before the deadline.
