i've heard this place bandied about here. it's an article from the ny times and far too long to post here. if you want to read about* it here's the link. and you may have to register but quit crying because it's free and you should at least glance at a decent paper every day.

That looks like 7th Heaven, exactly where I skied the best days of my life, and my first major powder days. I lived/worked at Whistler-Blackcomb for half a season when I graduated high school.

ayah, I work in the cycling industry and Whistler is mecca to most US cyclists. The amount of trails is staggering and this is just the "off season".

I can't imagine the ski season. I'd kill to be able to take a lift to the top of this and ski over the fresh powder to the bottom.

I skied Blackcomb once on ecstacy, by myself. A good drink and album might have been more appropriate.

Whistler=a place that has beat the living shit out of me, turned me black, blue, yellow, and purple, and provided some of the most amazing times of my life.

Also a place where I've considered "man, I could really get hurt or DIE" on more than one occasion.

A gorgeous well-breasted blonde named Heidi and I fell in love in Whistler. She was a Christian and I a Jew. We hitchhiked to Vancouver Island where I met her family and she took me to some bizarre church where a young pastor gave a sermon using slides of a cartoon frog. She wanted me to believe in her god. I didn't quite get it, but it was the time of my life.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Vancouver and man what a beautiful city. Neither of us are skiers but I'd love to go back up there to check out Whistler.

I also got booked for shoplifting baby powder and hummus in Whistler village. It ain't easy for a mountain employee to get by there without thieving the essentials.

What is a thread about Whistler without appreciation of its bunnies?

Didn't you see Ski School?

I can't imagine what the day after would be like if I went skiing now because the time I went when I was 21, and actually in decent shape, was horrible.

I've never actually been skiing although I can skate like Wayne Gretsky. I guess that's because while there was a pond near the grimy dilapidated housing estate I grew up on, there weren't any mountains with a ski lodge.

The ski scene has never really took off here because the weather is just too bad during the winter. We don't often get the alpine conditions, it's usually white out blizzards, 300m cloud bases and a wind chill that will freeze your arsehole closed like a lock.

Still maybe if I can fall in with a few of the people I've fallen out with lately I can get people to come with me to Glen Coe this winter.

This is what the hot tub is for. Mandatory 30-60 min soaking after every outing. Plus, after a few days in a row you will be in much better shape.

Mmmmmmmmmmm, Whistler: 2 mountains, no waiting!

Won't it just snow already? I hate this grey latency.

Don't know where I'll be tripping to this winter - hopefully out west to someplace like Big White - but I'd almost be wiser to spend my money on a night pass at a hill just out of town. I'm thinking quantity more than quality.
