All,

i use my bookmark link toolbar religiously so my question is this - when i click on a link i get this error (happens quite a bit, but not on all links):
the target "" of this Internet Shortcut is not valid.....

then when i right click properties on the link to correct the URL - there is no web documents tab. so in order to make the link work again - i have to delete it then re-add.

this SUCKS...any ideas?

i agree...but here is what happened to me.....i have been using FF (since the first version), and i only use IE7 to test some stuff with work. well, i accidently used IE7 to visit obner and FLATOUT the page looks so much better. now when i use FF it pains me to look at it (any page for that matter). if i could get this link problem fixed i would switch over to IE7 totally and ditch FF.

really? as you piqued my curiosity, i just now did exactly what you described. the pages looked almost exactly alike to me, with only very small and subtle differences (id: scrollbar, certain buttons). what looks so different to you?

TIP:

firefox will look really nice if you turn this option on.....
To enable Clear Type, go to “Control panel / Display properties / Appaerence / Effects” and finally select “Clear Type” on the second drop-down!

if its turned off or to soemthing else - IE7 will always look good and FF will look crappy.

interesting. they're both set to (nearly) the same defaults (Times New Roman, Courier New), but it does look a bit different in IE7.

here is what i read

http://design.ox2.be/index.php/2006/08/ ... s-and-ie7/

the only way FF will look "good" is to have clear type turned on for your system. it doesnt matter for IE7.

other observations....

i really have no beefs with FF2. i just have the one small bookmark link beef with IE7.

IE7 is way faster then FF2
FF2 adhere's better to the web standards
IE7 is harder to customize (cant really move stuff around - ie the refresh button - without getting down and dirty with the registry settings).

at this point its a tossup. also: IE7 seems to handle memory better as well (opened tabs then closing them)

this is pure speculation, but i'd wager the reason clear fonts aren't enabled by default is that they cause a significant performance hit.

I use IE7 at work and FF at home. I miss my hot button toolbar that I have setup for FF. I also hate in IE7 that the refresh button and home are over onthe right, and that the pull down menus are below the web address dialog box.

You can unlock the toolbars and move them around, and there's some way to put the classic skin back on.

And I hate that there isn't an adblock or flashblock add on.

I DL'ed Firefox a couple of days ago and it is waaaaay quicker than my IE6 or IE7. I will never go back.

I fooled around with that cleartype stuff for about a week or so after IE7 came out trying to get it to look good. Yeah, you love it at first, it looks so smooth, but that shit starts to fuck with your eyes. On all 3 computers I tried to tune it on it just ended up looking a little fuzzy and weird.
