...really need a trip to Auschwitz to atone for his -mistake-?

give me a friggin' break.

Sorry, but IMO this story has been blown way the fuck out of proportion.

One hand: He was just dressing up for a party. Should we read nefarious intent into every costume worn at every party? That's stupid.

Other hand: He's the potential future King of England and should have known better. Public choices that such a man makes are scrutinized and he should be aware of that by now. He's 22 years old, not 10.

Both sides are valid. But the story also points out how seriously some people still take royalty. THEY HAVE NO POWER, LIGHTEN THE HELL UP. Is my advice.

Front page news over here. I'd recommend Auschwitz to anybody, though, whether they wore a Nazi outfit or not.

Front page news in the NYC tabloids as well.

Bottom line: dressing like Hitler in school isn't cool.

Misanthrope.

I don't think we really need a final solution for everybody, just 'cause they're not named Colin.

I hate you.

but I love you, man.

And you have to admit Colins rule... well, maybe not yet, but we will. Oh yes.

Why do they still have this whole royal family lark going on? They're expensive, useless and embarassing to boot.
At least buy that boy a minder -- since he's clearly not going to do it himself -- while you're splashing out the taxpayer dollars. For fuck's sake, dude.

Can you imagine what kind of international outcry would arise if Jenna Bush did this?

EDIT: why did i use the word "surface"?

Yeah, it's too soon to start dressing like a nazi. Give it a couple centuries and it'll be one of the most popular halloween costumes. I couldn't care less about British royalty.

wait, are you saying it wasn't a mistake? or are you implying its a mistake not worth noting? er, its a mistake unworthy of backlash?

i think they had an episode of south park where cartman showed up to a party wearing a nazi uniform (hitler?) -- and that's a cartoon that's intended to be offensive. i can't believe a well-educated 22-year-old would do something so insensitive.

It's hard to believe where the grandson of Prince Philip might get facist ideas from.

It was totally in poor taste. He used poor judgment. But are people too sensitive when it comes to this issue? Yes, of course.

It was a pretty stupid thing to do, but I what I find troubling is that he was going to a party with a "colonial theme". 'Cause dressing as a Nazi at a party celebrating years of oppression just ain't cool either.

It's just something you shouldn't do. As far as "punishment" I don't know. That seems a bit silly to me too. I have to think that he's lost friends over something like this. At least, one can hope. Or they just treat him like an ignoramus. Either way, I think I am jumping on the "who cares" bandwagon for this one. I understand it may mean something more for those of you in the UK, but for me. Wow, I just don't give a rat's ass. I thought it was stupid and I laughed at how moronic it was.

I also don't think that it is people being too sensitive over the issue. I don't think there is such a thing. People saying it is a big deal that someone would make light of it is valid. However, it just so happens that this person who did it was some form of celebrity/political leader ( :) ).

Well, half of Europe was made a German colony not 75 years ago...
And Germany was basically made a colony owned by Britain, U.S., Russia, ect. after WWI....
