The first record had its moments, but was a little *ahem* uneven.

Ian should focus on putting out worthwhile releases on Dischord, and not some shitty band he's in.

well...
i wasn't blown away by the self-titled
and i was disappointed that it didn't live up to fugazi
BUT
for a debut release of a two piece it's very unique
especially LOUD when you pick up the subtle shit they do so well

and
i think its pretty badass that they don't play in traditional venues
and that you can go see them for five bones

ian could easily charge thirty bucks and still pack a place
less monumental acts pull that bullshit all the time
but that motherfucker still doesn't compromise his art or give a shit about anything except the act of creating and performing

AND
this album easily kicks the shit out of the last one
amy is about twice as creative on the drums on this one
song structures are wild
better vocals and lyrics too

so
ian should do whatever the hell he wants-he's more than earned the right-and im pretty sure he'll continue to deliver

I didn't expect anything even remotely like Fugazi out of that first one and didn't really get disappointed by it. It wasn't my favorite album of the year, but I liked it quite a bit. I absolutely loved "Around The Corner."

This is very encouraging. Got it on order and hopefully should arrive tomorrow. Totally forgot it was coming out this week until I saw this thread.

That reminds me, I need to add Pancake Mtn to the potential xmas list. I really dig the Evens. Their first album showed promise. It had a deliberate path.

Among the great things about McKaye is the fact that he is out there. Not just in his Dischord clique but out and about. I saw him recently off to the side at the recent Nels Cline/Glenn Kotche/Lambchop show at the Black Cat in DC. People were going up to him and he seemed genuinely interested.

Also, was Fugazi even Ian's band. I always saw him as a sideplayer in the outfit. I mean, I know his name is on the albums and he was an active member, but it seemed to me like Guy and Brendan were more into making the sound.
