I know FT started this on the Black Board, but it's crashing my Firefox.

I picked up Jim White, Drill A Hole... at the used record shop for a measly two bucks. Throw in a Willie Nelson hits comp and John Hiatt's Slow Turning and I escaped for less than a Jackson.

Anybody know any more about this Jim White fella? I love this song with Aimee Mann, "Static on the Radio".

Yeah, I bought Drill a Hole the day it came out, cuz I had heard "Static On The Radio" back in January when they played it on NPR.

I can't get into most the rest of the album. He's a pretty dark fella. There's a good article on him in an issue of Paste magazine I have though.

Kind of an enigma.

I sure hope "Bootgazer" takes off. If so, that will mean I have named TWO genres ("Wuss UK" being the other).

Wuss UK is stupid, like american bands can't be or something.

All I know is he's got 3 albums out - Drill A Hole..., No Such Place (highly recommended) and Wrong-Eyed Jesus (more straightforward than the rest of his discography, but still worthwhile) - and he's somewhere over 40 years old.

There's also a recent film called Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus, which is an oddball documentary about the American south that uses Jim White as its tour guide.

I gotta admit the Wuss UK thing is kinda catchy. I've used it before.

I've seen him before open for The Handsome Family in St. Paul. Real funny guy. His music really didn't do it for me but he had great stage banter between songs.
