Hey kids... sorry for the NMR but I have a quick work-related question.

Is it normal as a contract employee to ask for a raise when your one-year contract is being renewed?

If so, what would be a reasonable basic raise percentage?

Pls+thx

I don't know if it's normal or not, but why the hell not?

It's normal. You sould at least get a cost-of-living increase. If you've done well or taken on additional responsibilities, it should be more.

if you'd done a good job, i'd be looking for an annual raise whether true employee or contractor regardless.

Depends on how much more you want.

Look, if you feel you've done a good job and deserve it they should have no problem with you at least asking for a 5-6% raise.

Not much but it's something. If you feel grossly underpaid ask for more.

I'm pretty lucky in that I have a part-time job I can live off. That said, I did agree to a "junior" salary when I started here a year ago and now realize that it's not so easy to live off. I've been told they're happy with my work but have not had an official "review". They've said they're renewing my contract but I never had a meeting about so I never had a chance to ask about raises, etc.

I'm not the best for being confident about this kind of thing. Also, they're a non-profit/gov org.
