I'm actually more excited about most of these than I am of what albums have been confirmed for the new year.

Ghost Rider
February 16
It has the potential to be really lame and most likely will be, but I'm a sucker for any Marvel Comics movie and Nicolas Cage is usually pretty good.

The Number 23
February 23
Jim Carrey in a mystery-thriller, directed by Joel Schumacher. Premise sounds like a dramatic version of Stranger Than Fiction.

Hot Fuzz
March 9
The guys from Shaun Of The Dead take on the genre of cop movies.

Paris, je t'aime
April
20 filmmakers and a huge all-star cast in a series of vignettes based on love in the city of love.

Spider-Man 3
May 4
Despite the presence of Venom, him being played by Eric Foreman, and Sandman being explained as Uncle Ben's "real" killer, this could be good. The last two were pretty great and my expectations are pretty low.

Bee Movie
November 2
Yet another Dreamworks movie. Yet another animated movie about bugs. The only difference? Jerry Seinfeld, John Goodman, Matthew Broderick, and Chris Rock. Even if it's aimed at children, it still should be as entertaining as any of the first Pixar movies.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium
November 16
The writer of Stranger Than Fiction writes and directs a film about the most amazing toy store in the world, owned by a 243 year-old eccentric. Also: Natalie Portman, Dustin Hoffman, and Jason Bateman.

Sweeney Todd
December
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Helena Bonham Carter in a creepy musical. Hasn't failed yet. Also: Sacha Baron Cohen and Alan Rickman.

Other possible releases:

8 Track
Zach Braff-cowritten coming of age film.

Be Kind Rewind
Michel Gondry and Jack Black. A man whose brain becomes magnetized unintentionally destroys every tape in his friend's video store. In order to satisfy the store's most loyal renter, an aging woman with signs of dementia, the two men set out to remake the lost films, which include Back to the Future, The Lion King, and Robocop.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Based on the great, great book.

Open Hearts
Zach Braff writes, directs and stars in this remake of the 2002 Danish film.

Persepolis
Animated film of a young girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Based on the graphic novels.

The Savages
From the writer and director of Slums Of Beverly Hills. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney as siblings caring for their sick father.

Synecdoche, New York
Charlie Kaufman and Philip Seymour Hoffman. 'Nuff said.

Wasington
Third and final chapter in Lars Von Triers' USA: Land Of Opportunities series, following Dogville and Manderlay.

how many movies is it going to take for him to realize that adding indie-rock soundtracks to watered-down versions of foreign films isn't a good idea?

My friend told me about this yesterday. It looks pretty fucking good. I hope they involve Galactus somehow.

Also, Transformers.

There's a bunch of cool horror movies that I'm excited about seeing too.

Rob Zombie's Halloween.
30 Days Of Night
Hostel II
28 Weeks Later
Wilderness
The Host
Black Sheep
The Hills Have Eyes 2
Pan's Labyrinth

There's also a bunch of shitty remakes coming out too.

Day Of The Dead
The Hitcher

And I can't believe they're going to remake The Thing. Fuck. You.

Was Garden State a remake?

edit: never mind. I see that both The Last Kiss and Open Hearts (neither of which you have actually seen) are both remakes. And already you are "sick of him and foreign remakes".

Only movies on my must-see list for next year (so far):

Inland Empire
The Namesake
Spider-Man 3
Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Maybes:

300
Transforms
The Simpsons
Beowulf

But I'm sure there's tons of movies based on actually original stories that will be great too.

just because i didn't like a movie doesn't mean i haven't seen it. i mean, i wouldn't even know if i'd like it or not if i hadn't sat through it. have you seen the last kiss' italian counterpart? apart from a little more story on the parents, last year's remake was way too soft.

As a SS fan, the trailer does make it look promising since it appears to be following the actual comic origin story (SS bad--turned good by FF). I didn't take in the first FF film, but I'm fairly certain this will be a go to one.

FF2 is going to be the Surfer doing his thing with Doom and the Puppet Master messing with them as well.

Galactus is going to be the basis of the third film but I expect to see some badass preview of him right at the end of this one.

That's what I heard but I also heard it was a fantastic fantasy film. Just not a children's one.

300 and Pan's Labyrinth are both movies I want to see

Transformers is possibly going to be a great entertainment venture.

28 Weeks Later I have high hopes for.

But, I'd say that of those, Pan's Labyrinth is the one I am most interested in seeing.

Seriously, get the fuck away from the Thing. IT'S PERFECT.

I'm psyched to see that Darabont's adaptation of the Mist is probably going to get underway in the spring; that's been bumping around forever. Sonofabitch better do it justice.

Since yer hip to the horror stuff, paper, keep an eye out for the US releases of Severance and Isolation. Severance is a pretty entertaining British slasher; Isolation is like a spiritual successor to the Thing... bleak, gory as all get out, and awesome.

The Abandoned is also getting a wide release after premiering in that After Dark horror fest back in November. I didn't get a chance to see it, but a friend raved about it. The crazy dude who directed Aftermath + Richard Stanley? Sold.

that's shiv(old st. nikita khrushchev) that actually wrote that..he's more into the horror than I, but I totally agree about The Thing.

i think he meant the retarded filmmakers who want to remake it.

aftermath was pretty fucked up but i couldn't stop laughing at it because the guy in it looked like mr. bean.

severance looks pretty funny. i wish the trailer for isolation was in english though.

I had wondered if The Last Kiss was based on the Italian film.
