Hook & Ladder + Statue of Liberty = Balls of Granite!

Of course if you believe FOX and their drama machine, you would think this was the greatest upset of all time. BSU is undefeated and ranked #9 guys.

my biggest regret of the new year thus far is turning off the tv and not seeing the end of this game. it seemed amazing from the highlights. someone let us know when espnclassic replays it.

also, why's it called the statue of liberty?

Best end-of-a-game-and-overtime maybe ever.

And like the announcers said, Boise State played straight-up, in your face football with OU until the last play of reg, and those two crazy plays in OT. If they had been all trick during the game, OU wouldn't have been so easy to fool.

I believe the real Statue of Liberty was called that because the QB would drop back to pass, lift the ball to pass (like a torch, get it?), and as it was behind his head a runner would take it and run. This was a modified S o L in that it was passed at waist/back level.

Maybe there is something about playing on a blue field...

I disagree, I think it might be one of the best endings this year for a bowl, but nowhere near as exciting as USC-Texas and Nebraska-Michigan last year or even the Miami-OSU title game at the Fiesta Bowl a few years ago.
The Hook and Ladder is a great play, but probably doesn't equal the kick play Nebraska had to salvage the 1997 title from Missouri.

The only thing that made this remotely interesting is the fact that Boise State basically threw the game away on a bad INT and were able to salvage the win.

Nah, the thing that made it remarkable was the high drama, the trick plays performed to perfection, the calm execution and production under incredible pressure, and David slaying Goliath.

But yeah, USC/Texas last year was a better game... maybe the best ever.

The difference, Malachi, is that the Nebraska kick play A) was a complete fucking fluke, and B ) was an inter-conference match up, not The National Championship game or even a bowl game.

Boise State got into a massive crunch, and then did it fucking BIG. and, after OK scored on the first play of OT, sacked up, and said fuck a shoot out, went for 2 before it is mandated, and won the fucker out right.

I also didn't include the 1984 Orange Bowl where Nebraska chose to go for two and the win instead of one and the tie for the title or the 1991 Notre Dame/Colorado game at the Orange Bowl where the Rocket had a late 4th quarter punt return called back on a phantom clip.

Boise State showed lots of balls, but one of the reasons I didn't watch the 2nd half besides the Broncos 21-10 lead was the fact that lame Fox announcers were making such a big deal of the David/Goliath thing.
It in no way is as close to an upset as George Mason over UCONN in the Big Dance last year. Granted the Mid Majors have a long way to go in NCAA Football, but freaking Boise State was considered a better team by almost everyone but the Vegas oddsmakers, since they had a higher BCS ranking.

You mean, respectively, the dumbest call by a coach, and the worst travesty of a penalty in the history of the NCAA?

I'm not discounting the fact that the kick play was an illegal fluke, but it did determine the National Title that year and was the feather in the cap for all those behind the creation of the BCS. Without the kick, Michigan would have won the title outright and Osborne might not have retired with three titles that year. It was also the 2nd time that decade, the Missouri Tigers had gotten screwed out of upseting a top ranked team.

It kills me to admit it, but it was a bad call, and the second bad call that year to give Colorado the title. In my lifetime, that was probably the worst NC pairing for me besides the 1986 Miami-Penn State and the 1988 or 89 Alabama-Miami game. The FSU-Florida game in 1996 was probably the worst, but I just ignore that one.

That AL-Miami game was Jan 1 1993, for the 1992 nat champ.

I knew it had to be later than 88, but then I didn't think it was as late as 92.
Again, I ignore most games involving one of the hated Florida schools.
