This has come up around here before. Here's a bit of news:

'Indiana Jones' to Begin Filming in 2007

By ALICIA CHANG
Associated Press Writer
Published December 30, 2006, 12:01 AM CST

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- George Lucas said Friday that filming of the long-awaited "Indiana Jones" movie will begin next year. Harrison Ford, who appeared in the three earlier flicks, the last one coming in 1989, is set to star again. Lucas said he and Steven Spielberg recently finalized the script for the film.

"It's going to be fantastic. It's going to be the best one yet," the 62-year-old filmmaker said during a break from preparing for his duties as grand marshal of Monday's Rose Parade.

Exact film locations have not been decided yet, but Lucas said part of the movie will be shot in Los Angeles.

The fourth chapter of the "Indiana Jones" saga, which will hit theaters in May 2008, has been in development for over a decade with several screenwriters taking a crack at the script, but it only recently gained momentum.

Lucas kept mum about the plot, but said that the latest action flick will be a "character piece" that will include "very interesting mysteries."

"I think it's going to be really cool," Lucas said.

At the inaugural Rome Film Festival in October, the 64-year-old Ford said he was excited to team up with Lucas and Spielberg again for the fourth "Indiana Jones" installment. Ford said he was "fit to continue" to play the title role despite his age.

Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's "Temple of Doom" and 1989's "The Last Crusade."

Lucas praised Ford for breathing life into his character.

"Mostly it's the charm of Harrison that makes it work," he said.

Well, a bad feeling about anything Lucas is attached to.

No, no, I mean in Star Wars they always say "I have a bad feeling about this". But, you're right, Star Wars 4+ sucked too.

I read that Ford wants to play Indy old. They're going to work into the plot that's he's not young and dashing anymore and not pathetically pretend that he's young like Roger Moore did with his last James Bond appearances.

Hopefully it'll be a better fit than the original Star Trek crew traipsing around the galaxy with pacemakers and walkers.

The trailer will feature a shot of Indiana either leaping out of the way of something, or rolling out of the way of something, or narrowly avoiding getting shot by something and him saying:

"I'm getting too old for this."

I thought Harrison Ford hadn't made a movie worth seeing in 10 years but I was mistaken:

No, I know what you're talking about. But even the Indy Jones/Star Wars geek in me is not real optimistic about this. I mean, it's obvious the script will have to include a younger co-star for him to play off, much like Connery served in the last one - almost twenty years ago!

I think I mentioned it before, but this is a role that should be passed on - a la James Bond - and kept in the Nazi-chasin' era. Ford was great, but I think someone else could do justice to the role.

And the Enterprise, zooming by with its left turn signal left on.

I'm totally there with you. I just had this insatiable need to explain my joke.

Wow, looking at his filmography, he really hasn't been in much the last 10 years. I count 8 movies, two of which were in 1997. Only three films since 2000. Maybe he's been saving himself for this Indy flick.

I will go see it. It could be good. I liked all the previous Indiana Jones movies and his age is not that big of a factor in whether or not I am entertained.

Calista Flockhart take meticulous attention.

I'm completely biting on this one. I think Lucas and Spielberg know that if they f up this franchise then they're in trouble. SW is/was big, but let's face it, the fans (I mean fans) are used to letdowns/drivel with all the supplementary materials out there. Indy isn't like that. Indy isn't a universe, he's a guy, and to screw him up would be huge. To go with the old Indy just makes sense. He's battled nazis, crazed Indians, nazis again, personally I'd like to see him take on the abominable snowman but that just me.

It would have to be late 1950's-early 1960's Al Qaeda, since that's the Indy timeline at this point.

The first one was, what, 1939? And the 4th one is supposed to be him in his 60's. Which would mean 1965 at the latest.

He would be too old. WWII was 39-45. If Indy was 39 when the first movie was made. Let's give the benefit of the doubt and say in the film he was mid-30s, which again might be wrong since I can't remember when the opening scenes of Last Crusade took place. If we were to say 20 years passed, he could be up against Cold War Russia, but that doesn't seem like much fun. I see him going back to the Middle East and teaming up with John Rhys Davis somewhere.

I guess it depends on how old the character is supposed to be versus how old Ford actually is. I guess I could look it up or something.

Oh wait, how old was the young Indy in Last Crusade? 10 probably? That was 1912. So that'd mean Indy was born in 1902.

Hmm. Wikipedia says July 1, 1899, in Princeton, New Jersey

Also I got the Raiders date wrong. It was 1936. Crusade was 1938.
