Just before moving out to the 'burbs, my wife and I lived in a neighborhood right near where the Gov. lives. Now, his neighborhood is really pretty -- right on a lovely wooded stretch of the river -- and my wife and I liked to take walks through there every now and then.

A couple of weeks ago, I was out to lunch with Cary, in that old neighborhood, so I decided to show him where we used to walk. We were on our way back to a birthday party a little ways away, so we were in the car. Anyway, I was was telling him stories about the old 'hood, and that where we were driving right then was right near where the disgraced former gov. lived.

Just then, we came to a stop sign, and stopped to let a guy walking a couple of dogs cross the street. Immediately following, was a jogger in a white T and sunglasses. The jogger ran RIGHT UP to our car, peeked in the window, and gave us a smile and a wave.

It was Gov. Rod!

For no reason, this guy just ran right up to us, peeked into our car, and took off.

I told my mom the story. Her response? "What an asshole!"

If anyone's been watching "Help, I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of here," His wife Patti is on there and hearing the story from their side paints them in a much different light. They actually make you feel bad for her and Rod.

Dude's trying to convince everyone in Illinois that he didn't let them down. He's also writing a book about it all.

How do I know? I spent two and a half hours in shitty weather seated next to him on a plane from Laguardia to O'Hare.

He uses his daughter's pink cell phone since it's not tapped.
