Not sure if this has been discussed on here but I just found out that Stevie Zoom and Amanda Wilde have both been relieved of their DJ duties, and Wilde fired altogether. This angers me... I loved Zoom in the afternoon. The guy always played requests in a timely manner.

There are a few other DJ's that should have gotten the axe well before Mr. Zoom.

Where did you get this info? I mean, I know they're not DJing anymore, but how do you know it wasn't their choice?

Lineup shakeup at KEXP
By Tom Scanlon

A pair of longtime DJs have been replaced at Seattle's offbeat, noncommercial station KEXP-FM (90.3/91.7).

This week, station veteran Cheryl Waters replaced Stevie Zoom in the 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. slot; and Minneapolis import and KEXP's program director Kevin Cole took over the 2 to 6 p.m. shift, bumping Amanda Wilde. John Richards remains the morning DJ.

As of yesterday, Steve "Stevie Zoom" McCarthy was still employed by the station, but his duties were to be decided; Wilde is no longer with KEXP. McCarthy and Wilde had been in their weekday slots since 1996.

"The decision was prompted by our recent assessment of our programming," said Tom Mara, executive director of KEXP.

KEXP is that curious Seattle station that has been "generously supported" by billionaire Paul Allen, yet remains "listener supported." Its format is dominated by indie-rock, and it prides itself on having played local bands from Nirvana to Modest Mouse to Death Cab for Cutie long before they became nationally known.

Zoom (McCarthy), in particular, was known as a champion of local bands. His leaving the air is not a signal on that front, says Mara. "... the answer to if we're changing our music format or our music philosophy is no. That includes our long-held tradition of championing the local artist."

Damn. Amanda Wilde was my favorite. I like Cheryl Waters quite a bit, so that doesn't bother me as much, but I agree that Stevie Zoom was a good dj with an inability to talk while on the air.
