I figure 75% of the music I listen to would be labelled "indie rock" (per Pitchfork's guidelines and definitions). However some of its artsy-fartsy pretentiousness can be such a turn off (re: Of Montreal, Arcade Fire, etc.). It appears that as a requisite to being accepted in the "indie rock" community (and to gain any credibility at all), you have to be as avant garde as possible.

Indie rock as a whole has become so calculated and, dare I say, predictible over the recent years: 1) you have to have at least one female in the band that plays either drums or bass, 2) you need as many obscure instruments on the album as possible, 3) you need to have weird and/or long album/song titles as possible, and 4) it doesn't hurt to have at least one single or album on vinyl.

I used to enjoy "indie rock" not for the sake of being part of the "indie rock" elite, but for left-of-center, original, non-conforming music. However, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd grow tired of it as a whole.

I can never abandon indie rock ever, since there still a considerable amount of good music that's found there. Perhaps it's just because I'm getting older, but far too much of "indie rock" is too annoying and obnoxious for my, um, 'liberal' tastes in music.

Regular rock is where it's at.

You could try judging music solely on the music. You might enjoy it more.

Guess I'm half-way to indie rock stardom! I'm soooo happy I was born a girl!

I think being a girl in indie rock has to be more of an resume-enhancer than anything else. You are probably more likely to be noticed than if you were a male making the same style of music.

It's pretty hard not to judge music solely on the music.

The same way you can spot a female driver.

What's personal about it? Politically incorrect, yes, personal, no.

I mean, seeing as you're not citing any examples, I figured you must be a girl in indie rock who feels that being a woman has been a "resume inhancer".

heh heh. yes, if you're a guy who has a band it could help you get more myspace hits if you had a cute girl in the band.

not the same thing as saying that if you're a woman playing indie rock it's a "resume enhancer".

So? Did I deny otherwise? Amazing you can try to discredit me without engaging me in the arena of ideas.

You're already doing a good enough job of it yourself, fuckwit.
