Ok, since this board has totally gone mad in terms of topics (well, relatively so), I thought I'd ask a broad general question regarding birth control.

For those of you who use it, what kind do you use?

For women who do not want children, have you considered tubal ligation?

Has anyone heard anything about Essure? [It's a permanent form of birth control for women which involves no incisions]

Do most insurance companies cover tubal ligations or vasectomies or "Essure"?

Anyone sorry they had a permanent birth control method procedure?

[note: I believe I have hormonally-induced psychosis from my birth control -- hyperbole maybe, but I think there is some element of truth there -- Chatzy folks may concur]

I use Ortho Tri-Cyclen, a daily pill.

I am nowhere near wanting children, but am only 25 and whether that state of mind stays or not, will never say never. So I haven't considered, or probably will ever consider, permanent measures.

I haven't had any adverse effects from Ortho, but that's pretty much all the information I can give.

Yeah, I've heard good things about the ring thing. I guess I should have stated that:

1) I do not want hormones and 2) I do not want children, evah (have enough neices and nephews and pets to take care of any maternal urges)

(and I hate latex)

my lady also suffered from hormonally-induced psychosis on a few different b/c pills she tried

and since i don't wear rubbers, we go to the abort-o-mart like twice a year
seems to be pretty effective

ugh. birth control.

I've used
Ortho-Trycyclen (no problem)
Orthocept 28 (no problem)
Nuvaring (awesome to use since you pop that puppy in and you're done with it for three weeks, HORRIBLE on the emotional side of things. when i took it last year, i considered walking into traffic on many occasions because i was so depressed. just tried it two weeks ago and took it out after a week because i was crying all the time and depressed - but, as with every birth control method, it's not like this for everyone.)
OvoCon (didn't work. we'll leave it at that.)

I've considered getting one of those quarterly shots, but my hormones are so sensitive, that I'd probably off myself.

Hi, condoms. Let's be friends.

Mel, if you decide to try the Nuvaring, let me know. My doctor gave me an extra sample and I think I even have coupons for free rings. I'd be happy to pass them to you.

I recently met a 30 year old woman who had her tubes tied at age 28. I personally think that's insane, but I'm not in her shoes.

Good idea, you hold 'em down while I get the doctor.

Seriously, I am thinking perhaps about Essure though it sounds weird (birth control by scar tissue).

My sister had hers tied at around that age. She is now mid-40s and doesn't regret her decision -- she's had a healthy, active sex-life free of worry (albeit no lil' tax breaks).

I usually use Durex or Trojan condoms, my last girlfriend was on the pill and then the patch.

Especially if you are not in a long-term monogomous relationship, stick with Condoms. The other methods may seem easier, but while they keep you from getting knocked up, they don't protect against disease. And, even if you are in a relationship, you have to be able to trust that there's nothing going on on the side.

And, if you got some guy don't wanna wear one, just tell him he ain't gettin' none until he does. If you say that and mean it, he'll slip one on in no time.

I mean gettin' knocked up is bad if you don't want that, but so is catching something, and remember, the guy doesn't have to have any visable signs of infection to pass something on to you.

The Motherfuckin Cluemaster OWNS this thread. The "Abort-o-Mart" is my new catchphrase.

I reccomend pulling out.

They're just upset that their real parents finally revealed they are butt babies.

Keep this in mind, monty.

talk to a doctor, not the board
