We've got 2-3 extra tickets for Cheers in Piccadilly Circus, London, UK this Sunday. Looking at a 7:30pm arrival for an 11pm kickoff. You get to meet Wench* and everything. You know you want to.

Interesting: the bar is owned by CBS so they're charging you a cover charge to watch the game. lmao!

ps: the game starts on the half-hour.

Superbowl Sunday is the best day for running errands. NO ONE is out and about.

well, no one's out during the game. the hours preceding the game are arguably the worst errand-running hours of the year, other than 12-6pm on new year's eve.

I picked up a pint of Texas Pete Buffalo Wing Sauce last night for Hot Wing makin on Sunday and I'm making some homemade ranch sauce.

all you need now is a fine shrimp cocktail.

Super Bowl party at The Gars' place. Will be meh, but what else I'm gonna do? Not like I care who wins.

I still don't understand why the Superbowl is such a huge ratings extravaganza. I realise it's the single deciding championship game of the football season. But do that many people really watch football? Or do a lot of people who don't watch football regularly watch the Superbowl just so they have an excuse to sit around with the guys and get drunk, or so they don't feel left out of the talk at work? I mean, I don't know a single family member, friend, or coworker who will be watching this.

people who wouldn't normally watch a football game watch it to see the commercials. commercials are (sometimes) innovative because a lot of people watch the event.

ratings would be even bigger if people didn't have parties with a dozen people all watching one television.

Are the commercials that special?

Thanks to Canadian Content, they don't air here. We get the same old frozen pizza and car commercials that we would during Wheel Of Fortune or the Simpsons.

not particularly. they haven't been great in years and it was only ever a few commercials that were very good anyway, but the prospect of seeing the next great commercial is always there.

and there's so much press about them, especially since they now cost, like, $2.6M for 30 seconds.

Don't get me started on running errands on New Year's Eve. Oy

I made the heinous mistake of going to the grocery store that day. A twenty minute trip took over an hour due to long lines and crappy cashiers.

good analogy. the Super Bowl is to football what NYE is to partying--largely it's amateur hour for people who have no business but generally a good time.

If I'm at a party and the game gets good, I'll go home or sequester myself in a room with serious fans.

Advice though to people who don't necessarily like football but find themselves at a Super Bowl Party: Don't sit there and tell people trying to watch the game how much better soccer or hockey or whatever else is than football.

i dont have any plans - i find most super bowl parties to be unbearable. unbearably full of dudes who dont know anything about football, women who love to interject that its all some homoerotic fantasy, and vegetarians who cant find anything to eat.

Also:

- Don't try to yell at the game. You'll fuck something up and it will be very obvious you don't watch football. This is why I stay quiet and just get drunk. As in, "how the hell didn't he see that bright yellow line? It's right there in front of him!"

I'm planning on watching it at home. Maybe with Deena, maybe with colin too (whatever, inconsequential), but its gonna be me in my tuxedo with a mess of pbr and some pizza rolls.

Oh, boo-hoo, your pretty-boy qb & genius coach lost... So, now, you're taking your remote & going home. Not watching the game. Not getting involved with Peyton -- nay, "turn-coat" Vinatieri's -- Super Bowl.

You sound like as much fun as any Boston sports fan. By that I mean, no fun.

Also, even before this game, Vinatieri had been to more Super Bowls than Brady ('96, '01, '03, '04), & with this, he's equalled Billy Boy. So, yeah, Vinatieri really is just a hired-gun, flitting team-to-team like he's a Gramatica or something. Please.

You've figured me out. Vinatieri was soooo instrumental in that game against the Pats and now I hate him more than Damon. I think you've let the Cluemaster title go to your head, Sherlock Homo.
