Nice, I was completely unaware of the album's background. I'm interested to hear it again with the history in mind.

At first I couldn't decide whether I loved or hated the album's title, but I'm pretty sure now I think it's the best of the year.

he left athens!?!
i didn't see that coming, though i have to admit that i don't believe he could have moved when the reviewer claims (04), as i'm pretty sure he recorded several records at what was him home studio in athens since then and before this one. hmm....

i heard the leak a few months ago, and right away i knew it was a weird, weird record. i'll give it a more careful listen now. also, i assumed Barnes was older than 34 (if he made it at age 32 in 04.... )

I'm really digging this album. Other than a couple of songs, I think it's strong all the way through.

pitchfork claimed it was about his divorce, which if i remember right, would be the opposite of what the first reviewer claimed. who is right?

One of which clocks in at a ridiculous 11:53, accounting for just under ONE-FOURTH of the entire album!

That's one of them. I don't even think that song is all that bad but I just don't like listening to it much because of the length.

Oh, it's bad, all right. Being just under 12:00 just makes it that much worse.

FT, I should be your boss you knucklehead.

The song that you speak of is IN FACT one of the two best songs on this album, the other being 'She's A Rejecter'.

WRONG!

Image

"The Past is a Grotesque Animal" is in fact quite grotesque itself and its mere presence does the rest of the album a grave disservice.

NEXT, Morton Kondracke...
