digest of his bio:
grew up living in cars, tents and in yards. ended up in maine in a cabin with no electricity or water. worked in a shoe factory. woke up one morning to a stephen stills song and decided he was to be a singer.

wrote some nonsense about him the other day thus the shpiel.

i dig the record a lot... kinda makes me need less for ryan adams to make another "heartbreaker" at points.

I like this record. Very warm, very mid-70's type singer songwriter type stuff. I get in the mood for this type of music every once in a while and it hits the spot. The closest reference point I can think of is Van Morrison meets Ryan Adams circa "Heartbreaker". It made my top 20.

A good morning record or dinner record.

I got it at Christmas time after previewing it at the store and it did initially turn out to be a bit of a letdown after listening at home. I've been hearing too much experimental pop type stuff lately and this one just came off as a little too uneventful. He sounds kind of like Bob Neuwirth, ie high quality stuff, just not quite the dynamic I was expecting and hoping for as the album unfolds. But it did turn into a bit of a grower. Has a certain similarity to Joan Armatrading on some songs, around the time of her self-titled album, which is always a good thing for me. There's one that I thought was a cover on my first distracted listen, but then I realized it was just similar. Another time he almost breaks into Dave Mason's "Feelin Alright" territory, but that's cool too. And definitely has some of that Ryan Adams feel from Heartbreaker going on as well, which is also alright. Nice album, just has the feel in some places that he's borrowing a little too much without a fresh take. But when he's on, he's really on. Unfortunately, some of the times I think he is most on are also the times that sound the most familiar to me. But still, I do like it. Just won't get a lot of plays. Lots of people, especially older listeners like myself, do seem to find it a nearly perfect fit for their tastes and love it. Just doesn't quite make it up to that level for me right now.
