So is this generally considered one of the best HD players? I think I'm going to get one but wanted to hear from anyone who has one how good/bad it is or if anyone else has any recommendations.

I have the previous model, the H140, and a few others on the board do as well. I think the general concensus is that it's a great mp3 player, with a few minor irritations. It's full of great features but takes a while to get the hang of compared to an iPod.

I think it's important to compare the features of various players and ask yourself what you really need. I wanted an iPod, but after hearing about iRiver on this board I did some research and found their players to be more "techy". They allow you more control of what you can do with it, while the iPod is designed to look great and play music easily (especially music you buy from them.

I recommend reading the MisticRiver board to see what they have to say about the H340. It was a valuable resource when I made my decision.

I wonder how billy g is doing with his ultimate bohemoth 100gb player.

How does the iriver compare to the zen?

yeah, i really like the iriver players for their battery life and their price. the only thing that the ipod has over it is really the interface. if i was doing it over again i'd probably get myself an iriver but i'd still get an ipod for the gf.

What sucks about the iRiver is how infrequently firmware update occur. However, being that you've bought the new version, you might actually get some update some time soon.

And as with most players (except the Karma), there's no gapless playback.

But aside from those two things, it's damn good.
