I just started listening to this through my computer at work because I was bored with the music I have on this computer.

All I know is I click on some link thru my MediaMonkey and it brings up a list of stations, and some of them are pretty damn good. There are no commercials, and it's free to me...

who is paying for this?

Most likely it's free for the same reason that p2p is free--someone is not paying licensing fees they are required to under law. These are just user-made radio stations, I take it?

I wanna say SOMA was pretty good too. I have them bookmarked on the home audio, so I can play them out the ceiling speakers everywhere.

Stations like KEXP and KCRW pay fees to SoundExchange based upon their listenership, and they make this back either through advertising or user support. Other internet broadcasters may fit within certain exemptions laid out in the statutory licensing regime that took effect in 2002, but I don't think any of these allow you to dodge license fees entirely.

yeah, it seems weird to me that SOMA can play all that stuff and not have any ads.
