 Post subject: what's the point of martini glasses?

is there a taste/temp reason for using those glasses? they seem like such an unnecessary pain in the ass.

i like using one, but i'm pretty sure it's only because i'm conditioned to get a martini in them.

i froogled

the stem is to keep the drink cold

the wide open brim produces surface tension that helps bring out the flavor (huh?)

i figured it was something like that.
could have guessed the cold part, but not the surface tension part.
