what's the point of martini glasses?

is there a taste/temp reason for using those glasses? they seem like such an unnecessary pain in the ass.

i like using one, but i'm pretty sure it's only because i'm conditioned to get a martini in them.

It's a great way to test how drunk you are, since they're so easy to spill.

the stem is to keep the drink cold

the wide open brim produces surface tension that helps bring out the flavor (huh?)

i figured it was something like that.
could have guessed the cold part, but not the surface tension part.
