I picked myself up one of these today.

Kodak Easy Share Z612

6.1 mega pixels, 12x zoom with stabilizer

Bought a 1GB memory card too.

After warranty after tax, came to $404.

I've only tested it out so far snapping photos of the cats and things around the house but I'm pretty impressed. The resolution of the few I've uploaded is pretty stellar and the camera has all sorts of neat settings and features that my $150 HP camera didn't.

The kids have discovered they can slide the camera memory card directly into the printer and have glossies in 20 seconds.

Which means they've suddenly become professional photographers and we've got several hundred prints of cats and snowbanks over the past 24 hours.

And you've become quite a bit poorer.

There's nothing interesting around here. I'm going to the museum on Tuesday. I'll probably take a bunch then.

I absolutely hate Kodak digital cameras.

(My experience is only with the low end models though.)

How's the shutter response time? (my biggest gripe about my 3-yr-old Nikon is the lag to *click*).

Once I have the flash and settings set up well, it appears to be pretty good. I've got some clear ones of the cats playing and you know how quickly they are to jump around.

I apologize, I didn't make that clear. What I mean is, how short is the time between you hitting the button and the actual picture being taken? I can get quick "shutter" times, with clear action shots of fast motion. What sucks on my (and many digital) cameras is when you're trying to get a shot of something that's happening right that split second -- you hit the button, it waits half a second, and then takes the shot.

That's what I was referring to.

The interval between me hitting the button and the photo being taken is pretty quick. Much quicker than my last one, although there have been a few times where it's still slow enough that the cat will look away quickly and blow the shot.

Yup, that's a dealbreaker.

Here are some of the ones that turned out the best from today. A lot of displays I wanted to capture I couldn't because they were dimly lit and flash wasn't allowed.
