I didn't realize so many people still use gnutella based software and similar products.
I respect Purdue for not attempting to punish its students, a college shouldn't have to enforce RIAA rules, they have more important things to do.

The top Five offenders:
Ohio University
Purdue University
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
University of Tennessee
University of South Carolina

Stupid Fucks. Yeah, target your best consumer. These people are idiots, no wonder Steve Jobs is the most influential person in music.

The record companies screwed up by lobbying for changes in the copyright act that forced the file-sharing programs to go to a P2P setup. Previously, they could easily identify the most egregious uploaders (over 50% of the music on these networks is shared by 1% of the people). But now they can't, so they go after the downloaders, who are the fans.
Uploaders can obviously be fans too, but it's hard to argue that the guy who rips thousands of CDs and puts them up on Grokster or whatever isn't at fault.

Speaking of Jobs, that letter was hilarious. Written to sound like a message to the consumers, but actually a threat to the record companies (i.e., you don't like Apple's monopoly, tough shit).
