I really want to hear this. After being sorta dull over the past decade IMO Iggy has started putting out some interesting material again (collaborations with Peaches and Teddybears). This looks like it could rock pretty hard.

Their rudely urgent brand of earsplitting garage rock and bawdy English blues straddled the '60s into the '70s, but, sadly, the Stooges disintegrated in 1973, leaving their insurgent leader Iggy Pop to power through more than three decades of music alone. But a phone call to the surviving members and siblings Ron (guitar) and Scott Asheton (drums) to play on Pop's 2003 record Skull Ring led to the improbable: a full-on reunion of a band that served as a precursor to the so-called birth of punk rock that would follow three years after its breakup. Employing producer Steve Albini (Nirvana) to capture a similar bare minimum to their legendary three-album catalog--three power chords and an archaic rhythm section co-anchored by bassist Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE)--these Stooges let Pop's in-your-face vocals capture the mundane: cruising for women, teenage autonomy, and finding love in a cash machine. But never fear that these late-middle-agers (Pop turns 60 a month after the album's release) feel the need to impede the volume. Songs such as "Trollin'," "Greedy Awful People," "She Took My Money," and "Mexican Guy" detonate like outtakes from 1970's Fun House. And with Iggy Pop showing no signs of slowing down and the Ashetons having nothing else to do, this band of Stooges stands a chance of outliving the first one.

Just in time for Jimmy O's 60th birthday.

I'm on board for all things Watt.

Really? I feel so deflated now. I still want to hear this for myself though.

Yup, Stooges were tops but I probably wouldn't even give this a look unless Watt was involved.

That bad? As a Stooges fan, how would you rate yourself?

Maybe this will be the album that finally makes a Stooges fan out of LooGAR.

I guess there's an off chance that it might sound exactly like Steel Wheels.

There's a short article in the new Paste mag about him- Iggy chose a cheap, shitty mic to sing into, rather than a nice mic the studio had on hand.

What an idiot.

So it sounds like Raw Power, then?

I like that Teddybears tune they're using in the Cadillac commercial.

I finally decided I had better give this a preview before buying it. I'm going to have to disagree with estone on this one. I thought it was pretty good actually. I think choosing Albini as producer was a good move, because it's sounds really spare and minimal. The band sounds great; the Asheton brothers still bring it, particularly Scott. The drums are really upfront. It also doesn't particularly sound modern to my ears, nor does it ape the bands previous albums (with the possible exception of I'm Fried which could fit on Funhouse). It just sounds like rock and roll. Loud guitars, drums and a guy yelling about dumb things. I liked it a lot.

EDIT: I've got this uploaded, so pm me if you want to hear it.
