Pretty sobering and very sad.
It's information like this that will keep New Orleans from ever being what it once was.
I can't blame anyone for leaving. Lord knows I wouldn't invest most of my life savings to build a house and home only to think it may be gone in 30 years. The resell would be impossible also.
Not to mention a rich musical culture that is already disappearing. Incredibly sad.
Interested to hear Tanner's take.
It's all tremendously sad but preventable. I've seen estimates that saving the coast would have the same price tag as that poorly planned Boston Tunnel. Probably cost less than the wall to keep the Mexicans out. Factor how much it cost us to be at War with a Iraq.
But you can' t make people care. S. Louisiana is one of the few unique places in the U.S. Not to mention how much seafood and oil gas will cost the country once it's gone. You would also think that enviromentalist groups would be threatening to fire bomb DC if something didn't happen because so many rare animals call this area home. It makes fianancial sense to save this place. But again you can't make people care.
If you want more reading, check out the previously mentioned Bayou Farewell.
