yeah the girlfriend doesn't like them. she won't give them a chance. but if she can watch marathons of wedding shows on TLC, I can fully satisfy my hobbit fetish. that, and we have more than one tv/dvd setup.

Whenever I buy the EE trilogy, I'll make an attempt.

It's funny that some places sell it for more than what it would cost to buy the 3 movies seperately, even though it's just the 3 of them in one package.

yeah the part with saruman's tower is pretty awesome. i have no idea why it was taken out. there's another part with gimli and legolas that's funny and i think another scene with legolas that's cool. that's all i noticed before i was off to snoozyville.

Coupla weeks back, my wife and I watched the first two, then crashed and watched ROTK after breakfast the next morning. Couldn't make it the whole 14 hrs.

as soon as we get the extended ROTK, this is on, beeyotches!

it's nice having a wife who's as much of a tolkien geek as i am (and, not having kids yet, we'll probably actually have the stamina for this).

They should have left all the City of the Dead stuff in.

For one, it gives us more Aragorn. For some reason I thought we didn't really see enough of him in ROTK

For another, it fills in what people could only guess, or know if they read the books.

In the theatrical release, as far as i can remember, the trio of heroes goes to ask the ghost army to fight for them. the next time they appear are on the boats outside Osgliath. if you you were asking yourself how the heck they got from point A to B, watch the extended edition.

so.

I haven't even seen ROTK yet.

having a kid will probably prevent this from ever happening.
My dream of watching all 6 star wars movies back to back probably won't happen either.

Don't think I could talk SO (and his tv!) into this; I suspect once-in-theaters is about all I can reasonably ask of a non-fan. Sigh.

You mean, in one sitting? That's insane! Thank the makers that you have to get up and change the disks (you do have to change the disks, don't you?).

I watched one disk every night for four nights straight, in anticipation of watching both disks of LOTR:ROTK the following night, but that ended up fizzling, so I kinda/sorta lost my momentum. That's about the closest I came/will come.

no, they show them meeting the army of the dead and asking for their help.

yes but after he asks the King of the Dead for help, (which we don't get to see his reply to), the next thing you know they are on the ships doing the sneak attack thing.

IIRC, the extra bits were filmed after production for the theatrical release was finished.

Haven't watched Extended ROTK yet, but I did do Trilogy Tuesday (extended first two, theatrical ROTK) back in a local theater in December '02. That was totally great.

On a related note, when all 6 Star Wars movies are eventually out on DVD do we watch them in the order they were released or in the chronological order of the story?

Sadly, I've been wondering the same thing. I pity future generations who start watching with episode 1.
