WOW - just got their 2007 release - VERY STRONG. i really dig it. never heard of these guys. i guess they have been getting alot of hype. there are some vocals but mostly instrumental....

PM me if you want it (Do Make Say Think - Me, I'm a Backstory out of Oxidation)

AMG DESC
Quote:
Toronto band Do Make Say Think began as the psychedelic-influenced instrumental improvisations of bassist/trumpeter Charles Spearin, guitarist Justin Small, and drummer James Payment. The band grew to include keyboardist Jason MacKenzie and multi-instrumentalist Ohad Benchetrit, with the final addition of drummer Dave Mitchell in 1998. Do Make Say Think released their self-titled debut on Constellation Records in late 1998, followed by the early 2000 release Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord Is Dead. After promotions for that album subsided, they again buried themselves in the studio until March of 2002, when they unleashed & Yet & Yet on Constellation Records. The band's fourth album, Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn came out a year and a half later.

Oh, fuck yes.

I don't think they share any members with Godspeed, who are not really doing anything anymore.

I really like that Goodbye Enemy Airship album, but I still don't think I've heard any of their more recent stuff. A good band I keep forgetting about.

Winter Hymns was very good and I'm only passingly intrested in post-rock.

Yeah. You're right. And just for the record...all the top 20 threads contributed to me missing this post earlier today.

I deeply apologize for my repetition.

They were excellent opening up for BSS on their recent tour. I almost liked them more.

I've been enjoying this today. Suiting my slow morning perfectly.

It has vocals though.

Stu, Broken Social Scene is a really good reference point.

Reminds me a lot of "You Forgot it in People" without the rock songs. This leans more towards the instrumentals on that albums but with vocals.

Do Make Say Think is not usually my type of thing.
But they are just too damn good for me to ignore. Yeah, awesome.

Good comparison. I've been trying to figure out who the hell they sound like.

I really love this album.

They share members.

Wow. Welcome back to music, Jasmine.

I need to read up on these bands a bit more before opening my mouth. Or typing my thoughts. Whatever.

They have a shit ton of members. Who can keep up with all that. I just know cause I was a big fan of YFIP and Country Hymn.

I'm very new to them, but they'll be playing here this Saturday. I like what I've heard, so I take it I should go?

Yeah, they don't share any members with Godspeed, just the label. Godspeed is from Mtl and DMST are from Toronto. Justin small is also in the duo Lullaby Arkestra (with his gf Katia), who are patently insane and also worth checking out, although they are in an entirely different ballpark (look them up on Myspace).

I was really into Do Make's first record when it came out and then kind of dropped the ball on picking up their records. I should remedy that.

Holy moley, you were right. That was fantastic.

The Berg Sans Nipple was pretty great live as well.

(and as an added bonus, I saw a naked dude running down the street with an unmarked police car slowly following him on the way home)
