Any NY'ers planning on going? Sounds pretty cool to me.

From NME:

Quote:
Lou Reed to launch New York venue
He'll be the first act to play the HighLine Ballroom

Lou Reed is set to be the first act to play brand new 700 capacity venue the HighLine Ballroom.

Amy Winehouse, .moe, Mos Def, Spank Rock and Talib Kweli are also among the acts confirmed for shows at the venue, which is set to open on April 30.

Named after a disused elevated railway that runs along the west side of Manhattan, the venue is situated on 16th Street in the Meatpacking district.

The HighLine Ballroom will also contribute to the local neighborhood, donating 25 cents from every ticket sold to 'Friends of the High Line', the non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation and reuse of the High Line elevated rail structure.

A limited number of tickets will be sold to the public for the opening night performance by Lou Reed and will cost $85.

For more details on upcoming performances and tickets go to highlineballroom.com.

Dri and I saw him at the last ATP Festival in LA -- it was my sole reason for going and he gave a pretty good show.

as much as i heart lou, i'm not paying $85. jesus h. christ! although, i'm very interested in the spank rock show... maybe i'll actually get the chance to finally catch them live after many failed attempts (sans the jimmy kimmel show but that doesn't really count).

$85 seems steep. Last time I saw him was when he toured for the New York album, one of the best shows I've ever seen. He did the whole new album from start to finish with a stage set to compliment the songs. Then, he took an intermission, stripped down the stage, came back and played solo hits starting in the present and moving back. Then, took another break and finished off with some velvet Underground classics. Pretty much covered anything anyone could have possibly wanted.

That live recording he put out with Antony on vocals a year or two ago was interesting, but I'm kinda torn about how the result sounded.

Didn't The Academy once exist in that area? I wonder if it's not the same place.
