Paul Weller Spits On Sting

While there was some excitement in the Chart office when The Police reunion tour was announced, the same enthusiasm has never been shown for Sting's solo work. And we're happy to find that modfather Paul Weller shares our opinion.

Weller and Oasis' Noel Gallagher performed The Jam's "The Butterfly Collector" and The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" at a benefit show for the Teenage Cancer Trust at London, England's Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, and they didn't come to blows.

Instead, Weller took his aggression out on a photo of Sting that was hanging on a wall at the venue. According to England's Mirror newspaper, he "marched straight up to it [the photo], coughed-up as much phlegm as he could muster and planted it plum in the middle of The Police frontman's head... as he walked away, Weller then snarled: 'Fucking twat!'"

Weller apparently has a major dislike of the lute and tantric sex afficionado, as NME.com attributed this recent quote about Sting to him:

"He's a fucking horrible man. Not my cup of tea at all. Fucking rubbish. No edge, no attitude, no nothing."

I thought this was pretty funny, especially since I saw the idiot playing a lute on tv last week. Horrible.

Oooh spitting on a photo! He's so ANGRY isn't he?

I already knew Paul Weller was a complete dick but here's the proof of proofs. If he'd spat on the real Sting I bet Gordo would have fucking murdered him.

The career long gurning is getting as tedious as the stale dad rock this old fart invariably puts out every few years.

Hopefully the annoying drunken twat falls off his moped and winds this scraggy neck round the front axel.

Yeah, but he doesn't play the lute though, which makes him roughly 100 billion times cooler than Gordo.

Also Sting has comported himself far better over the years than Weller has. Sting may be haughty and his art might be up his ass, but Weller's unending contempt for his contemporaries is nearly as tedious as the endless bile from Roger Waters or John Lydon.

Particularly when several of his solo albums are quite dull.

Sting also never wrote a song as good as "Going Undeground"

I couldn't have said it better myself, and I LIKE Paul Weller.

I like The Jam better than the Police, but Paul Weller's solo career hasn't been any less shitty than Sting's. And, that comment about how things need some edge? Has he completely forgotten his Style Council days?

And, I agree that I would have had much more respect if he had spit actually on Sting rather than on his picture. Hell, I can spit on Mike Tyson's picture, big fuckin' deal.

Paul Weller hates himself; it's obvious.

The Jam and the Police are both great, but the Jam have a far better overall catalog. I think the Police only have something like 75 songs total, the Jam have almost 120, and I'd say a higher percentage of Jam songs are really good.

As for comparing Sting and Weller's solo work, Weller holds up far better, and it's not close.

that said, Weller is one of the biggest cocksuckers on the face of the planet

Yeah, not really cool on Mr. Weller's part (how old are you again, Paul???), but I have to admit, I did chuckle. The lute-playing is rather tedious, isn't it?

They both started out strong and got increasingly boring. But Sting has a lot of very good tracks that have never been singles.

Most of his hits are pretty lame compared to non-hits.

I was gonna shut up because I've brought up my Sting-guilty-pleasure thing a bit too much (though maybe not lately), but this is definitely true. As far back as his first solo album, he (or someone) picked the worst tracks on the records for singles.

Now, even I gave up on him after Brand New Day but those first few solo records were pretty good.
