Granted its a rumor, but.......
first blink 182 now this???!!!???

Quote:
Artists: Robert Smith, Ashlee Simpson

Project: A rumored collaboration on Simpson's upcoming album.

First mention: A March 22, 2007 story on Entertainment Weekly's website.
The Build-Up: For whatever reason, NME randomly picked it up this morning--a full week after EW ran it.

The Dam-Break: A few hours later, ripple reports appeared on Stereogum and Pitchfork, the latter of which called the news "perplexing at best, disheartening at worst." And, of course, it's now on every other blog in the world. Unfortunately, none of them picked up on the fact that even EW's Cure-Simpson news-break is merely "reportedly" happening. In summary: No one knows what the hell is going on--or if anything is going on at all.

I think he's taken the elder statesman think a bit far.

It's one thing for Willie to ogle Jessica, but quite another for The Cure to acknowledge kinship with the crap bands that claim The Cure as an influence.

I'd much rather see him on a Jessica Simpson album than a Blink-182 one, because Simpson doesn't take herself too seriously and no one would take the song seriously.

I don't want to see Martin Gore on the next Linkin Park cd, thank you much.

Probably won't happen. Smith should put out a solo album.

I think Robert Smith should just retire.

Did anyone see him on that korn unplugged thing...I caught a bit of the duet with robert smith and I think I vomited a little.

I mean it's possible Smith is so enamored by the adulation given him by crap younger musicians that he's lost his way musically.

But a solo album might be more personal.

Might be. Unless he has lots of guest nu/emo dinks on it.

Robert Smith suffering writers block

June 2004 saw the Cure return to a bevy of critical and commercial success on their self-titled comeback, but the British goth rockers are struggling with the follow up.

Robert Smith reveals he has struggled to find lyrics for some 33 new songs for the as-yet-untitled album, the band's 14th studio release.

Now pushed back to May, the record's release date is putting pressure on the 47-year-old rock icon, who has set himself a festive deadline.

"I want them (the words) to mean something, it's not enough that they rhyme," Smith reveals in an interview with Reuters "I find myself stopping short and thinking I've done this before, and better.

"I've given myself a deadline to finish the words before Christmas. If I don't I should be shot," he adds. The new album is shaping up to be a mix of mournful songs alongside more energetic and upbeat cuts. I tend to favor this option, more in the style of the 'Kiss Me' album, with different things happening instead of being a mood piece. But the art of that is to get it to all hang together."

He did collaborate with Gwen Stefani on one of her new songs though...

Somewhat related: I posted the new single of Robert Smith and one of the dudes from Orbital over at a tune a day.

It's pretty good.

i was a huge cure fan in late middle school to early high school, but not so much anymore.

the last album was actually not too bad in my opinion, but i'm just not really feeling the cure that much anymore. not that i don't like them or won't wear my pornography t-shirt, but they're like the smiths to me. i like them, but they represent a different era in my life and i can't really push past that too much.

but yeah, ashlee simpson never had any credibility as a musician or singer anyways, what the hell is he thinking?

It has been revealed that enigmatic Cure frontman Robert Smith will be collaborating with mainstream pop singer Ashlee Simpson for a song on her next album. Simpson is the younger sister of popular star / actress Jessica Simpson, and gained notoriety via an MTV reality series and subsequent pop singles. The singer is infamous for a lip-synching mix up that was broadcast live on Saturday Night Live in October of 2004. While performing at the 2005 Orange Bowl halftime show, Simpson was booed by a vast majority of the 70,000+ fans.

Pete Wentz of pop-punk stars Fall Out Boy and a reported "personal friend" of Simpson's, was rumored to be responsible for the pairing with Smith. Wentz, however, has denied the claims, stating "I doubt I had anything to do with it, 'cause they were friends since she was performing in Chicago. But I definately only have good things to say about Ash - I think the collaboration could be great."

Both artists are signed to Geffen Records, which could also play a role in Smith's involvement. You can check out the full story over at NME. The Cure last released The Cure in 2004.

How does anyone place their faith in Robert Smith in the first place?

According to long-running Cure fansite Chain of Flowers, Robert Smith is apparently denying recent reports of a collaboration with pop-star Ashlee Simpson. Information on the reported denial is scarce, however, the original source of Smith's contribution appears to be an article published over at the Entertainment Weekly magazine website.
