Anyone familiar with this place?
The greasy spoon-looking place on Irving Pk., just west of Southport that serves Korean and vegetarian food? I used to be a semi-regular there, but driving by it recently, I think that I saw just an empty lot.

Was I correct or was that a nearby lot? Is Jim's really gone?

Any of y'all even know the place?

Just looking for info from you North Siders. Thanks.

Never heard of it. And I walk between Ashland and Southport on Irving fairly often.

Goddamn, I could totally go for a Toons burger right now.

Oh man, this is the best burger around. Hand patted, black angus burgers that are gigantic and juicy and delicious. So, maybe a BABILF.

It is (was?) the only place that you could get a bool-goo-gi (korean bbq beef) omelette (that I've heard of).

And, although it sounds completely unappealing, their Soy Veggie pancakes were insanely great. Not sweet, like regular pancakes, but a savory dish, that you top with spicy miso paste and watery plum sauce -- served over sticky rice. Absoloutely incredible.

Although I think that you can still get those at Amitabul on N. Milwaukee (6000 block); owned by the guy who originally started Jim's (oddly enough, named Dave).

Also had a great Bi-Bim-Bop and a large selection of teas, including barley teas.

It was one of those places, where they knew their clientelle and would serve the neighborhood homeless a nice meal and help them find shelter for the evening at a local church or shelter. Just a special place that made you feel good for eating there on many levels.

It would be a shame if it is, in fact, gone.

But I will make it a point to get to Amitabul some time soon.

Oh YEAHHHHHHHHHH! I know what you're talking about. I think it moved because I have a few friends who've talked about it in recent years.

Korean breakfast never sounded appealing to me.

i've been there, but not in over two years, so i have no idea if it's still there. i rarely even bike around there either. it was ok, but ridiculously cheap to offset.

i liked that they had smashing pumpkins articles all over the walls. i guess the band used to live around there and frequented it.

Yeah.
They were regulars in the pre-stardom years. Saw Billy in there once or twice.

I've eaten at Jim's Grill. I literally lived around the corner from it on Janssen and Irving Park. I wasn't too impressed with the food, but they did have a signed Smashing Pumpkins poster on the wall.

I remember them having a large number of vegetarian dishes on the menu.
