I was just about to post this.
I can hardly believe it. This is terrible, I can't imagine what would happen here in Lincoln if that occurred at the University.

It's crazy. We don't have a tv or anything here and no one checked the news for a while because we just heard that someone got shot. I think we all thought it was just one person getting shot. I guess we were wrong since it turned out to be 20 or so right now.

It never fails. I guess the U.S. was due for another school shooting.

Truly heartbreaking and scary. I'd so hate to be a parent of a Va. Tech student right now.

We were watching coverage of the Olympics rally at Daley Plaza (wtf?) during lunch and when ABC broke in to report on the shooting, one of the temps said, "Wow, that guy had a great shot." Nice.

Just my standard anti-gun stance whenever shit like this goes down. It's easily my most liberal stance on any issue, but also probably the one about which I am most passionate. Perhaps if I had grown up hunting or using guns in some sort of "constructive" manner, I wouldn't be so vehemently anti-gun. But I just can't help feel like the world would be a better place without them, or at least without so fucking MANY of them.

I know the default right-wing argument is always the same tired old, "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" line of bullshit, but it's not the career criminal who concerns me. I mean, those scumbags will kill you with their bare hands if they want you dead, so it really makes no difference whether or not they have guns. No, I'm much more interested in not having them so readily available to students (or really any average civilians) with severe emotional disorders.

More often than not, without having access to a gun, these psychologically tortured freaks will simply kill themselves or maybe even snap the fuck out of it and go on to form an emo band or something equally painful, yet much less lethal.

I love listening to these college kids give their accounts of what happened this morning. "And theeeeeen, the RA was like, screaming at us to stay in our rooms. And like, I love this school. I'm from fairFAX?"

Funny college accents aside, these kids are really holding up well. I'm pretty sure that if 20something people were killed anywhere near me, I'd pass out.

Just insane.
I think you put it best, Aaron.
And, sadly, I don't think we're done just yet.

He was sitting up there for more than an hour,
Way up there on the Texas Tower
Shooting from the twenty-seventh floor. Yahoo!
He didn't choke or slash or slit them,
Not our Charles Joseph Whitman,
He won't be an architect no more.
Got up that morning calm and cool,
He picked up his guns and walked to school.
All the while he smiled so sweetly
And it blew their minds completely,
They'd never seen an Eagle Scout so cruel.
Now won't you think for the shame and degradation
For the school's administration
He put on such a bold and brassy show.
The Chancellor cried, It's adolescent
And of course it's most unpleasant
But I got to admit it was a lovely way to go.
There was a rumor about a tumor
Nestled at the base of his brain.
He was sitting up there with his .36 Magnum
Laughing wildly as he bagged 'em.
Who are we to say the boy's insane ?
Now Charlie was awful disappointed
Else he thought he was annointed
To do a deed so lowdown and so mean.
The students looked up from their classes
Had to stop and rub their glasses,
Who'd believe he'd once been a Marine.
Now Charlie made the honor roll with ease,
Most all of his grades was A's and B's.
A real rip snorting trigger squeezer
Charlie proved a big crowd pleaser
Though he had been known to make a couple C's.
Some were dying, some were weeping,
Some were studying, some were sleeping,
Some were shouting "Texas # 1"
Some were running, some were falling,
Some were screaming, some were bawling,
Some thought the revolution had begun.
The doctors tore his poor brain down,
But not a snitch of illness could be found.
Most folks couldn't figure just-a why he did it
And them that could would not admit it,
There was still a lot of Eagle Scouts around.
There was a rumor about a tumor
Nestled at the base of his brain.
He was sitting up there with his .36 Magnum
Laughing wildly as he bagged 'em.
Who are we to say the boy's in
Who are we to say the boy's in
Who are we to say the boy's insane ?
