whoa.............
I just finished this book
And ( besides alienating my wife and world for the last two days ) this book has blown me out of the water. I read a lot, and this was stunning.

Read The little friend -- I think that was the title -- about four years ago. It was fair enough, but left something to be desired in the denoument. But, yes, I still enjoyed it enough to recommend it. Great characterisation.

There have been many books that made me reel. At the risk of ridicule, my favorite book of all-time is:
The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
It just completely turned my head around. (Insert brain surgery joke here -- you're so obvious.) A revelation in the truest possible sense.

And if you enjoy taking a half-hour on a single page, A Brief History Of Time is nice, light reading.

I read the Secret History over Thanksgiving this past fall and basically didn't talk to anyone the whole time I was there. Just sat in front of the fireplace and burned through it. I had read Special Topics in Calamity Physics last summer, which prompted me to finally give the Tartt book a read - you might get a kick out of Special Topics as a result, though it's a much different pace and style.

Yep, I needa read that Hawking book. For a brief moment I thought you were referring to A Short History of Nearly Everything which also takes a bit of patience to read. I'll be ordering up The Little Friend now.
