I was on a flight yesterday blaring Sister and came to the following conclusion:

Daydream Nation is their seminal work, but not exactly a good starting point for people unfamiliar with the band. Sister, however is almost just as great, but much more accessible and clocks in under 45 minutes. So, I would recommend Sister as the perfect starting point for anyone really wanting to discover SY.

Thoughts?

I like 'Sister' better and 'Sister' was my starting point.

I've always said that Sister is both the best place to start AND their best album.

I started with "Goo", which is as good a place as any... I know a lot of people who don't like earlier SY, and I've hooked a few using "Dirty" or "Experimental", and had them move forward (then backwards) from there...

i found that whatever people hear first is usually their favorite.

it's all pretty much the same quality, but i can only take so much of it. i think the 10 albums or so i have is enough.

I was that way with Dirty, but over time I found myself gravitating away from it, especially after I listened to Sister.

The schoolmarm in me would just like to point out that no album by any band could accurately be described as seminal in regards to that band's own discography.
