Since I am the College Football guy, I thought I would post this for Fu and Huskerpunk

I figured he'd leave after I read that Gus Malzahn, his former high school coach and Arkansas offensive coordinator was going to Tulsa.
I'm just surprised that a few other player's parents met with the AD to discuss the direction of the team. I'm not the biggest Houston Nutt fan, but he was clearly one of the finalists for coach of the year and the Hogs were damn good this year.

I understand why he wants to follow Malzahn but what I don't get is why Malzahn is doing it. The only way it makes sense is that he has been promised get the head coaching job in a year or so.

He's a brilliant Offensive coordinator and he had free reign to run that offense at Arkansas with Mustain, McFadden, and a bunch of other weapons coming back next year.

He's leaving to be assistant Head Coach and CO-offensive coordinator. He will be sharing offense duties, and at Tulsa.

Doesn't make sense.

Arkansas was good this year but the qb situation was nothing short of a disaster. I personally think he should have stuck it out with Mustain because if you're gonna have crappy qb play, it might as well be from the young talented guy who needs experience.

This is why you don't hire a high school head coach to be your offensive coordinator just to get some recruits.

I disagree. I think they inflated Mustain way to much. Casey Dick did a decent job outside of the LSU game, but LSU is a hell of a team. Mustain never built up solid confidence, which was painfully evident in the Auburn game. I know Arkansas is focused on the running game, but if Mustain is going to be a hand-off machine because he can't pass, you might as well just leave Robert Johnson in (except that Johnson actually showed up to play against Wisconsin). I also thought Mustain was pretty bad in the bowl game.

All the Arkansas people think Malzahn and Mustain were the saviors of the football team. The leap from high school to college is insane, and unfortunately 99% of people out there don't get that. You can't just go run the Springdale H.S. offense with a crop of freshmen and win the SEC West. Nevermind the fact that you have Darren McFadden & Felix Jones.

In December, the parents of Mustain, Damian Williams (has also transferred) and Ben Cleveland—all kids who played for Malzahn last year—set up a meeting with AD Frank Broyles because they felt they had been mislead, and that the Springdale boys expected to catch 60 passes a season. Nevermind the fact that's a pretty lofty feat for anyone, let alone several guys from the same team, that are in their first year.

There's one other factor, apparently. Arkansas is putting a full court press on one of the top high school QB recruits out of Texas. Just so happens that top h.s. QB is Casey Dick's little brother.

But, once again, why would you priortize a handful of trophy case babies over a stud like Darren McFadden? It's pretty clear that the Springdale kids are more concerned with stats and personal glory than winning, and to that I say good riddance. Here's another thing: Arkansas isn't a program on the level of Auburn or Florida or LSU, and I don't want to disparage a decent small program like Tulsa (Steve Largent, baby!), but winning at Tulsa in your no-huddle spread offense in C-USA (the worst conference in football?) isn't nearly the same as competing in the SEC.

I do hope that Jamaal Anderson (Jr., DL, but not from Springdale) decides to stick around rather than go pro a year early.

My opinion is based on that awful performance in the LSU game. I didn't watch much Ark football beyond that but that game was brutal for Dick.

Leave your sex life out of this OKL, its a football thread.

Honestly, if I was Coach Nutt, I would have cut all three of those fucktards the moment their parents came and complained just to send a message.

Yes, but I think these three kids sort of saved his job prior to the great season they had. They would have had a lousy recruiting class without landing Mustain, and I think Malzahn and his boys sort of energized the program without really producing on the field.
Nutt will definitely be on the hot seat next year if he keeps driving away the talent.

The latest rumor I'm hearing is that Malzahn was going to be demoted because Arkansas is/was trying to land David Lee (offensive assistant coach for the Cowboys) as their new Offensive Coordinator.

Malzahn supposedly decided that he didn't want to stick around for that.

Yeah, I think Mustain was overrated coming out of high school, but I do think Houston Nutt's ego and deisre for complete control is going to end up being his downfall at Arkansas.

I'm just glad he never got on that plane to take the Nebraska job!!!

But on the other hand, these Springdale people (parents & Gus & players) need to realize that winning a state championship in high school doesn't mean that they are going to just keep being unbeatable once they get to college, especially in the SEC.

Too much ego on all sides in this issue.

He's now staying through this semester at least.
Tulsa, Texas Tech, USC and UTEP all expressed interest in him according to various reports.
He's still not actually back with the Razorback Football team.

Mitch is going to USC now according to ESPN.

I don't get it, they are loaded at QB with Booty and Mark Sanchez along with a few recent recruits, I can't imagine that he'll ever see more than mop up duty during his career. It's not like he really lit the world on fire this year.

Kid has rocks in his head. He couldn't beat out Casey Dick. He certainly isn't beating out he studs on USC's roster.
