This sounds pretty good, but the last album also featured two greats songs and a bunch of boring stuff.

A little more on the album:

A NEW ALBUM

Okkervil River just put finishing touches on a new album this past weekend. It was their longest and most involved process making a record to date. Changes were being made literally up until the last second. The label was making “stop the presses!” calls to the record plant to make last-minute revisions. Will was overcoming such extreme vocal strain that a doctor prescribed a month of rest during which he wasn’t even allowed to speak and was forced to converse via scribbles on a notepad. But it has all paid off.

The band and everyone who has heard it is extremely excited and pleased with this new album, which was recorded in Austin with the same Brian Beattie who brought us Don’t Fall in Love with Everyone You See, Black Sheep Boy, and Black Sheep Boy Appendix. It was mixed at the studio of Spoon’s Jim Eno, and the incredible William Schaff once again provides the artwork. Jagjaguwar will release the album, and more details about it will be announced very soon.

It was no Down the River of Golden Dreams, that's for sure.

"Black"
"The Latest Toughs"
"A Glow"

So 3 songs.

I'ma have to re-listen sometime soon, but I was quite disappointed in BSB in 2005.

it was my album of the year in 2005, so good (or real). i took a walk when the sun was setting and the intensity of the lyrics along with the music won me over. i liked DTROGD but BSB is where it all came together for this band, still haven't heard the debut.

so looking forward to this, thanks Timis and Haq for that info.

AND you got the Appendix. One of my fave 05 discoveries.

Black Sheep Boy was my favorite album of '05. I personally don't think there's a weak track on there. Black and For Real are the best and most accessible but the whole thing is great.

You should get the Deluxe Edition. Really a great record start to finish, and some of the best songs are on the appendix.

I just like this record more every day, honestly.

the latest toughs is my poison. and whoever said the deluxe is the way to go is right. i had to get the appendix separately (annoying), but 'another radio song' bests anything on the main record.

"Another Radio Song" is actually a redone "For The Captain" from the first release, but it might be my favorite OR song. That whole appendix is just excellent.
