I found a guy selling his clubs on Craigslist in a hurry so he can turn around and buy a new set this week:

* Tommy Armour 845C SilverBack Irons
* Taylor Made 200 Steel Driver, 10.5 degrees.
* Generic-ish (Snake Eyes) 3 wood & 19 degree hybrid.

I'm still really a beginner, and I don't need much (these are def. more than I need right now), but these seemed like a deal and I wanted to grab something before I play this weekend, cause I'm tired of pissing away money on rental sets.

I wish this game wasn't so expensive, I just spent way too much money on a driver and this weekend I'll probably spend way too much money to play.

I got a pretty nice set from Target. It's a John Daley set with the sweet bag and all for $75. It was half off. woot. Then I sold my old shitty set for $20 at my garage sale.

I used to not like golf until I realized how nice it was to have 5 hours of peace and quiet from the kids.

I love getting out to the driving range, its amazing how much aggression is released just by whacking a golf ball.

hey!

i just got back from buying a TaylorMade hybrid 4 wood club (22 degrees). i demo'ed one wednesday and these things are SWEET! i can now dump my 3-6 irons as well as my 5 wood (all of which i could never hit worth a damn anyways).

anyone else using the hybrids? believe the hype!

while bored in a doctor's office this week i read a special golf SI issue. one of the ads said "My Game. My Shaft." i thought that was pretty funny. i can play golf in video game form but that's about it.

that looks like a pretty sweet hybrid, j. my only hybrid is basically a 3 iron/wood and is totally generic (SNAKE EYES). i could never hit it at first, so i had a huge gap between my 4-iron and 3-wood (don't own a 5-wood), but then andyfest mentioned that you're supposed to play them like irons, so i started standing closer and now i hit it pretty well.

but isn't it kind of giving up to replace all of your low irons with hybrids? ;)

when you're as bad as me, you do what you gotta do.

seriously though, i didn't touch my low irons at all on wednesday. i was hitting that demo club straight (i normally slice real bad) and far probably 80% of the time. i even used it off the tee on a long par 3. i'm sold.

now if i could just straighten out my drive.

I gave up on hybrids and went back to a normal 3 and 4. i cant hit them worth a shit, but that's ok. I'm pretty good with a 5 wood.

Ever try adjusting your grip to close the club head slightly? Helped me straighten things out a lot.

Though it could also be a million other things. ain't golf fun?

yeah, I'm not a hybrid guy either. The best club in my bag is my 5 wood right now. looks like this, but it's got a 5 on it. I love that thing, it hit it as far as my 3 and straight as an arrow.

I tried the hybrids as well and never could hit them---I can hit the 3 and 4 irons pretty well, so I stuck with it.
