See them live and you'll understand. I've seen them four times since 2003 and they've never put on a bad or even mediocre show.

"Z" is one of the most painful albums to sit through.

Can't do it. I tried once at a friend's house and after about 3/4 of a song, I started to get antsy. Sounds too guitar-y for me.

Painful? Wow, I've never heard it described as that. I honestly don't see how you can like the live show but describe an album of theirs as painful.

And I think it's there most straightforward "pop" sounding album.

while Z is easily my least favorite of their albums...it's still pretty damn good.

I'd probably buy something if it were described as Buffett on a wank trip. Hating Buffett = hating fun. That said, I don't hear any Buffett in MMJ.

I could take or leave anything post "At Dawn" on record, but live they are fantastic and "At Dawn" is one of the best records of the last ten years. "Tennesse Fire" is pretty damn good too.

Probably. Fun and quasi-hippies. But then, you never saw me tearing shit up at a Mclusky show. Even the singer assumed there was something wrong with me.

I dunno, I just feel like a lot of that band's sound comes from the same 2 or 3 effects and as a result the songs tend to all sound very similar. Granted, this is the case with many bands I love, but the reverb0heavy echo box thing probably isn't a sound my ears are conducive to.
