That picture is pretty heartbreaking.

Sorry but I'd be remiss to not point out the hypocrisy of the situation. Without starting a megathread, I'll leave it at that.

I just think its hypocritical that feeding a dog to a shark is horrendous, but eating a cow, or chicken is ok.

Also, using a dog to catch another animal. I mean, I'm all for fishing, but why is that less cruel than killing any other animal?

No, much like the child isn't who eats the chicken nugget out of a happy meal.

so you're saying animal is an animal is an animal
but adult humans aren't animals and they should know better?

sure. Look, my personal politics dictate that eating a burger is wrong. Yr own personal diet/morals are yr own, which is how it should be and none of my business. Personally, I think killing any animals is wrong, just because we're intelligent enough creatures to know that a)animals have feelings (and not just warm, fuzzy ones), and b)we don't need it to survive. To me, I see no difference between a dog and a cow, or cat and a trout. They all breathe.

kum-by-fucking-ya.

Come on dude. Yeah I get it, killing is killing but do you not see the difference between the relative humane killing of a chicken for food and putting a fucking hook through a dogs nose, throwing him in the ocean, watching him flail around, and then getting eaten alive by a shark????

evil. Fucking evil. Sorry, but dogs and cats are not chickens, nor are they cows. There is a difference, however slight it may seem to vegetarians.

fucking evil.

I would never want a cow to sit on my lap. A dog, however, awesome.

Edit: and although very cruel, that dog totally looks punk rock with that hook through his snout.

I'm not even looking at the picture or the article... the mere idea someone would use a dog as live bait is horrible.

I'm not buying this, even if it is NG. First off, this story is a couple years old, as Z already pointed out. Secondly, there's no way that a hook through the lip like in the photo would work. The dog would come right off. It would be like trying to throw Lawrence Taylor out of a bar by tugging at his earring.

This pic looks more like an accident than bait.

Not really. I mean, cows are given hormones to produce milk, bolt-gunned, not given room to move. Chickens the same story.

Relative humane doesn't even cross my mind, personally when it comes to this subject.

Feeding dogs to sharks=bad for sure, but there shouldn't be a scale as to whats worse. Killing is killing. Its a cultural bias. As said in that article, the townspeople feel the dogs are worth nothing. Unheard of in our culture. In our culture killing a cow is fine, in Hindu-centric countries its unheard of.
