i know y'all are all bent out of shape about the commuting of libby's sentence, but i personally think that the administration's use of executive privilege against the subpeonas for the nsa wiretapping and the attorney-firing scandal is a much, much bigger deal and something to really be pissed about (even if it, too, was not a huge surprise to see happen)

i mean who are they kidding? clearly there's been sketchy shit that's gone on--i mean, gonzales and card just happened to acost a critically ill attorney general in the icu--a man who basically rose out of a coma to tell them to get lost on the nsa wiretapping. he must have felt pretty strongly about something about the program being out-of-line to tell them no. and it's pretty much established that the attorney firing scandal was a partisan-based attack on folks who weren't lining up like good little soldiers.

either way the administration basically saying "ok, congress, you only have a year and half left to get us and then we're outta here, so go piss up a rope you'll never get to us in time". the worst part is is that everyone pretty much knows there's all kinds of shady shit that has gone on (if not simply the most obvious case in recent memory), but, procedurally speaking, i think congress is fucked here. . . they can fight the administration and get jack-shit done otherwise or just let it go and try to get something accomplished over the next year and half.

that's how i understand it. will more politically-minded obners set me straight if i'm way off-base here?

the list of things i am pissed about knows no bounds.

Its not a belivable conspiracy until you claim Gonzalez and Card PUT Ashcroft in the ICU to shut him up.

the list of things going on in politics that piss me off could just about crush this planet flatter than a dime.

What I don't understand is A)how the dems aren't pursuing impeachment in order to position for '08 and B) why both other houses aren't up in flames at being told that their initiatives pretty much amount to fuck all. There's like a total of 28 people in DC that don't deserve a solid pistol-whipping.

The Impeachment thing does not play into the "politics of change" leitmotif.

The people who will win the next election for either side don't want impeachment or vengeance, they want COMPETENCE and relatively open government.

I stole this Mencken quote from a recent (HORROR OF HORRORS!) George F. Will column:

"The older I get the more I admire and crave competence, just simple competence, in any field from adultery to zoology."

I need a book of Mencken quotes.

I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time. - H. L. Mencken

It is inaccurate to say that I hate everything. I am strongly in favor of common sense, common honesty, and common decency. This makes me forever ineligible for public office. - H. L. Mencken

What can any of us do? So much pop culture, so little time.
I guess the appropriate thing is just to formulate some opinions,
and hope a miracle comes along, and gives us the life we deserve.
