. . . and a 1-1 draw v. the argies. did anyone see the match? i know we had a sub-1st team run-out and heard they were fielding a top notch squad (messi, cambiasso, crespo. etc.)

a 1-1 result would have been massive against that squad. they could have done it too, just got a little porous in the second half and never really mounted much of an attack. the feilhaber volley is pretty sweet though.

been watching any of the other matches from the copa? they've pretty much all been good, it's been entertaining football with plenty of goals.

and now the u-20 world cup will be starting up. not a bad time for soccer, especially with all the transfer fun stuff going around.

I was a little disappointed by this result, especially after beating Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final recently. I saw on Univision where Mexico was beating Brazil, did they end up winning? It would suck if they beat Brazil, while we lost to the Argentines.

yeah Mexico won but it's nothing to get too excited about. Brazil was basically fielding a b-squad. the argentinian side we faced last night would have outclassed the brazil that mexico beat

That's exactly what happened, but Brazil had a pretty weak team there (for Brazil anyway), while Argentina brought all the big guns. And, the US was missing most of its top players.

The second half was sad, but the kids fought hard in the first. Hopefully, they're not too discouraged and can get some decent results in their next couple games. If this team makes it out of the first round with all the guys missing it would be a huge accomplishment.

yeah like 16.5 million pounds for bent to head to spurs. i mean he's young and has plenty of years left in him but that's why they call "crazy money". and berbatov was what, like 9 or something. i think they're seeing the writing on the wall and not only want to compete for three cups next year but also possibly see the shyters at manu maybe swooping next year.

and what about bayern--they're at seven transfers now including ribery, luca toni andklose? i think they're at 70 million in transfer fees

Klose and Toni sounds like the makings of a pretty good strike force.

However, back to real football. Motherwell are signing Chris Porter from Oldham on a free.

Take that, Bayern!

i was really hoping ribery was going to come to england.

and it'll be interesting to see what happens to the rest of the bayern strikers...makaay will probably get shipped out

i'd rather watch a makaay goal than a ribery cross. period. i haven't watched him in a while and don't know if he's in the same form, but he's better than folks give him credit for. . .

You are aware that this US team are kids, second tier players etc. The "stars" of the Gold Cup didn't go to South America for the Copa de Americas.

I wasn't until Nobody mentioned it the other day. I had sort of assumed that they would be the same team, since the two tournaments were so close together.

What the hell happened to Argentina?
I watched the entire championship game on Univision yesterday, and a young Brazil team thoroughly outplayed Messi and Co. The freaking Argentines even scored a goal against themselves.

Interesting game. Argentina played worse than they had in the rest of the tournament (likely because of Brazil breaking everything up in the middle) and Brazil scored just about every chance they got. I would have picked Argentina to win based on how they were playing up to the final. Glad I didn't put any money on it. That early Baptista goal was a fantastic shot and had to have taken the steam out of Argentina early.
