hey, i downloaded a bunch of songs the other day when i realied it was somewhat naive to be listening to mastadon without ever having heard slayer. i decided to rectify that. if anyone wants a listen pm or email me and i'll ftp 'em for you--it's like 19 or 20 songs. it all came from a music blog so it's kosher.

Reign In Blood = BEST METAL ALBUM EVER.

Superb band, and they destroy live.

Slayer's 2nd best IMHO is Seasons in the Abyss followed by South Of Heaven.

Yeah, Seasons in the Abyss is great, too.

I downloaded their pre-Reign stuff a while back, and this reminds me that I still need to listen to it.

I still haven't heard Christ Illusion.

I've been listening to Decade of Aggression a lot as of late.

Seasons of the Abyss was my entry point, so I'll always love it. It was mixed by Andy Wallace of all people. Introducing melody into speed metal is tough.

Can't wait to see how their tour with Marilyn Manson goes down.

I like it a lot more than I expected to. But yeah, start with Reign.

Neuro, if nobody's done it by tonight, I'll send something your way.

In high school I went through a wannabe metalhead phase, and everyone I was hanging out with that point worshiped slayer. I could never stand their music, or most metal, but in ninth and tenth grade the metal kids had the best parties so i pretended to be into the music.

Yeah, not really bar music. Some dumbfucks were blasting Pantera and Metallica at NOON on Sunday at a bar/restuarant where I was hungover and eating with my friends. A few people complained.

I get to witness this first hand, I might even have to monitor the security staff behind the barricade during that show.

the thing about Slayer is that listening to them, even more so than early Metallica albums, makes you realize how fucking awful Metallica has gotten.

they were pretty great live but i wish i'd seen that raining blood tour they put on a couple years ago. i have the dvd of it and it looks like fun.

yeah they kinda sucked for a few years when lombardo wasn't drumming for them. i mean, it wasn't metallica suckage, just not up to par with their other stuff. christ illusion kicked ass.
