I'd like to get an idea of what people think of the 2005 releases. It'll help me tremendously when I need to make a mix for a certain person.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the best...feel free to add a little blurb. Aaron, could we possibly put a sticky on this?

MANUEL MIRABAL - Buena Vista Social Club Presents...

My favorite album of the year so far.
RATING: 8.3

LOW - The Great Destroyer

I'm quite impressed by this. It's my first official Low album and it's convinced me enough to buy more of their stuff.
RATING: 7.5

m83 "before the dawn heals us"
- in some ways, better than its predecessor in its accessibility, but not as sonically emotion-tugging, imo. Right now, 6.5.

josh rouse "nashville"
- i like how he's able to shuffle over to another genre without losing anything. Beautiful album in parts. After hearing a lot of ed harcourt, elliot smith, jessie sykes, and others, i'm becoming a little bit weary of the emotional singer-songwriter -- people have to standout to revolve in my rotation now, and he hasn't yet (although he did crack my weekly top 20). 7.0.

bright eyes "digital ash in a digital urn"
- i like the dntel album. i love "give up". i love most of "lifted". Something gave here, an endearment of sincerity or emotional delivery or something... A majority of the album's fun for me to listen to, but pales in comparison to "lifted"'s highpoints or "wide awake" 6.0.

bright eyes "i'm wide awake, it's morning"
- A lot of reviews say this is his first consistent album. i agree. They also say this is what should of came from "lifted". i don't agree. "Lifted" was a great, soundtrack-type album that begged trimming and a musical adaptation. "i'm wide awake..." begs to be played while i'm out on the lawn (my 3x10 patch) mowing (which i don't do, the hoa takes care of that). It's a solid album throughout, and worth the wait. 8.0 in the morn.

doves "some cities"
- i really liked "last broadcast". i think this album does it one better, but i'm begging for more listens. Smooth & cool all the way through, like "last broadcast" or stills "logic". 7.5

Get Things We Lost in the Fire or Secret Name.

I haven't bought any 2005 stuff yet, but I'll hold this spot for when I do. I'll probably be picking up Superwolf and the new 6 Organs album eventually.
