The guy that I've bee carpooling with is retiring at the end of next week. I have a 35 mile drive (each way) every day and nobody with whom to share a ride.

Any of y'all ever use one of those on-line ride share hookup sites?
Van pool?
How'd it work out for you?

I'm also poking around the (very big) office, but have had no luck so far.
Ugh.
Not happy, especially with gas where it's at these days.

Anyone?

Oh, and there is no train that can get me here from my house, or I would take that in a heartbeat,

I don't know if this is an option, Todd, but what about asking to telecommute? I know they give tax breaks and incentives for that type of thing, so if the majority of your work is online/cpu based, it may be an option. Something like a 2/3 split during the week seems to be the norm.

Hire the retiree as your chauffeur. He's probably going to need to supplement that shitty retirement plan anyway.

Telecommuting is not an option.
I will check craigslist... there are other office buildings near me.

(this is my answer to everything but) plenty of motorcycles get upwards of 50mpg, and in some cases close to 80. Who knows, maybe you'd jar something loose and kick that awful shrimpboat habit.

I know Ottis Toole kicked, but I think Henry Lee Lucas might still be available.
