Just discovered the new Wovenhand this weekend. Its fantastic. It lacks a burner like the previous albums, but it stands really, really nicely lyrically.

Suicide - Second Album

Of course, the debut gets all the plaudits for being groundbreaking, but the second album, originally released in 1908, may be better in some ways. Really, it depends what you want. The first one is more of a manic rush of a thing, all brutal and droning. But, on this one they seem much more in control over the sounds and vary things more often, even getting pretty in moments. Where on the first album it was almost as if the electronics were haphazard, this time around experience has enable the guys to reign things in a bit and I think it probably represents their actually getting what is in their head down on tape more accurately. Still, the first one's more rough and rumbling approach has its many merits as well. Either way, both good records, listening to the second one now. The reissue comes with a second disc of rehearsal tapes from the duo's early days. Haven't gotten to that yet, but it should be interesting.

I couldn't even get past 3 songs on this one before I deleted it.

My first time with this which is odd since they're one of my Top 5 favorite bands.

that free energy isn't as bad as i first though but it's not exactly good either. like derris said, good background music (or something to that effect).

still can't get into the suburbs, though i think i like the more uptempo numbers than the epic symphonic ones.

Nice. I remember that being a featured disc in an old CMJ. One song was on the sampler, and it was pretty good. I always wondered if the rest of the record was decent.

yeah he is. sometimes i think the jokes are a little weak but it's the little stuff he adds afterwards that makes them work.

i didn't get through the whole album today and it was only the 2nd time i've listened to it but it sounded pretty good and more like their older stuff. they're one of the only bands from that nu-metal (stupid term) class that i've always liked though. i should probably buy this so i can listen to it in my car.
