OBNER.

Just watched this OnDemand. The opening scene was hilarious, and Clark Johnson's character is awesome.

My brother has a mutual friend with the guy who plays Fat Face Rick, and he's trying to hit him up for drinks.

In one of the newspaper scenes, there's a middle-aged bald guy with a reddish beard and glasses. That's Michael Olesker, the longtime Baltimore Sun columnist who was fired not so long ago for plagiarism. He also got into it with then-Governor Robert Ehrlich, who forbid any state government employees from speaking with Olesker and Baltimore Sun State House correspondent David Nitken. The Sun sued, but lost.

I'm not an Olesker fan, but I thought it was funny to see him as a Sun employee, especially since he now writes his column for the upstart free daily, The Baltimore Examiner.

I actually watched the Season 4 finale last night and saw that the first episode was on there.

Why would they put it up there before it airs??

Regardless, yeah, OBNER.

I'm assuming that they're still going to stay with the major crimes investigation of Marlo's crew as well as the media angle?

They started that last year. I watched the entire season on Mondays (and then again on the real air date). Since they don't shoot in HD, there's no reason to to wait for Sundays.

Saw it. Shit was quality. That 30 minute look back at all four seasons with most of the main characters is great as well.

I don't know. I always enjoyed having to wait until Sunday to watch the Sopranos. Gave me something to look forward to.

Not as Meldrick Lewis though, which is a welcome surprise, since I had heard a rumor somewhere (or maybe just dreamed it) that Lewis & Munch were showing up this season.

I was pretty sure that Munch is gonna be in it.

Wiki Wrote:
The character has spanned over fourteen years and fifteen seasons. Along with one hundred and twenty two episodes of Homicide and one hundred and eighty three plus episodes of SVU, Munch has also appeared as a character in episodes of six other series:

* Law & Order - four episodes: "Charm City", "Baby, It's You", "Sideshow (Part 1)", and "Entitled (Part 2)"
* The X-Files - one episode: "Unusual Suspects"
* The Beat - one episode: "They Say It's Your Birthday"
* Law & Order: Trial by Jury - one episode: "Skeleton (Part 2)"
* Arrested Development - one episode: "Exit Strategy"
* The character is also slated to appear in an episode of Paris enquêtes criminelles, the French version of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Munch has been the only fictional character played by a single actor to appear on seven different television shows. These shows were on three different networks: NBC (Homicide: Life on the Street, and Law & Order franchise), FOX (The X-Files, Arrested Development), and UPN (The Beat). Munch has also been one of the only television characters to cross genres, appearing not only in crime drama series, but also the genres of sitcom (Arrested Development) science fiction (The X-Files) and children's ("The Simpsons" and "Sesame Street").

According to USA Today, Munch will appear in one episode of The Wire's fifth and final season.[3] This would bring the number of separate series featuring Munch to ten.

Watched ep1, have ep2 but I'm reluctant to watch it until the rest of the first 7 end up on the internets (or I just pony up the cash for HBO). Anyhow, despite some of the rumblings about the newsroom being outdated, etc., I really liked the introduction of the "fourth estate" to the world of the Wire, esp. with Gus's character.

Ha, there was a review in the actual Baltimore Sun about it that cast the newsroom element in an unflattering light. Most other things I've read or heard (Fresh Air) seem wholly enthusiastic...

Haha. Fuck The Sun.

I don't work at a Major Metro, but I didn't find the newsroom antics (budget meetings, bitching about art choices, no photog on scene of story) far-fetched at all. How 'bout you, Chad?

Haven't watched yet, but based on the bits I heard on "Fresh Air" and elsewhere it seems right on the money. I've been in those meetings, had to shovel that kind of bullshit and wondered myself what exactly the mission of a daily newspaper is these days. Especially now, when my paper is going through the EXACT SAME THING as what's happening on The Wire.
