As a fellow Black Mountain fan- I'm catching them in a free in store Friday night here in Seattle. Am I in for a treat?

I've never seen 'em in their Black Mountain incarnation - but they've been cool as Jerk With A Bomb and fun as the Pink Mountaintops so a free instore as BM has gotta qualify as a treat. But we need ifihadahifi to give us the real scoop - he saw 'em a couple weeks ago.

Edit: where are they doing the instore? East Street?

Easy Street Queen Anne. They are opening for The Mountain Goats Saturday night, but the show is $12 & they are the first of three bands, so they will probably only get 20 minutes or so.

They're coming back next month opening for Kinski. KEXP hasn't picked them up & I got an extremely snarky message when I sent an e-mail to them about the band.

Damn, I love that store. I make a point of hitting that place every time I go to Seattle. They usually have great in-store appearances scheduled throughout the Bumbershoot weekend - I saw Eddie Spaghetti and Pete Droge the last time I was there.

I think Sonic Boom in Ballard has a little bit better selection on new stuff, but Easy Street's used section and the customer loyalty program set it apart.

I'm always there with third world Canadian money so I'm never looking for new stuff. But I've found many exchange rate-friendly bargains in the used stacks.

Sucks having to carry that grocery bag of 1 and 2 dollar coins (loonies?) across the border eh mate?

By the way, for the first time in 5 years, I don't think I'm going to Whistler this year in March. I'm bummed.

Don't be bummed. It's the worst snow year up there in their history. 2 weeks ago there wasn't a speck of snow from mid-mountain down. If they don't get major dumps for the next 4 weeks they're pretty much screwed for the season.

This is the first year in my life that I've hit February without a single day skiing.
